David,
so it took a complete modification of all components of the engine. Great to see whats possible based on the old central camshaft engines. Your engine is as efficient as the new Roadster, comparing power and torque considering the displacement. And I guess you don't have to deal with emission control, based on the age of the car. And I like the idea very much to keep a car for a long time and develop it according your ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Beltempo, it would be not too difficult to have found another 30 or 30 horsepower: bigger valves, higher lift camshaft, DHLA48 carburettors but then the expense increases considerably. The engine has perfect characteristics for road use and clubman competition use. it is so easy to drive and not over-stressed and so absolutely reliable.

Rover V8, 1950s Yankee technology, single cam, overhead valves and no ECU! But a "bit" modified... even so a very impressive result. The torque is particularly smoothly delivered! I'd really like to see the same data for the BMW plus 8, it would be interesting. A web search seems to be called for!

Brilliant... Many thanks indeed!
It is now very clear why keeping the revs between 3000 and 4000 makes the car so effortless to drive.
At about 4500 the monster is let lose, I've not had the bottle to take it much above 5000.....
