had steering failure caused by steering column parting company with first uv joint from steering wheel. Suggest check uv's at both ends. Emptywheeler survives to fight another day!

That rates as very serious, up there with chassis breakages.

Oh dear. Were there any signs of the impending failure (such as play in the steering etc) or did it just let go?

Omg that's a serious worry... Is this the first steering failure? I think so. But don't panic yet. This is his first post, and he hasn't responded to any of it yet, and no pictures. Still, it is worrisome. Edit: Note, I am not saying he is having us on, but let's wait a bit till confirmed.
