Hi all,
I've always used ordinary grease on the front, I like it as it's easy to see the new stuff coming through. But I've just used some moly for the first time and now I'm wondering.....the latest front has both roller bearings and sliding parts . Don't these two types of bearing need different types of grease ideally?
What type do you use?

In my opinion, moly grease is perfect for both types of bearing.

Typical high tempretature grease and it is not that high a temp before melting is what is called a lithium soap. Typical is Castrol LM and it is a golden colour.

Moly grease is the same basic lithium soap with moly added which makes it stick everywhere blackish..

So use the one you want to as they are very similar.

To be honest unless the manual calls for moly I would just pick up te non moly but I cannot believe the moly grease would damage anything that only calls for the basic grease.

I have used Castro LMS for years, difficult to find these days so Castrol Multigrease is a good substitute, if you can get it Comma Multigrease is the same stuff in a different tub at 2/3rds the price. I get through a lot as someone on here saw today as their job required a mid build refill of the faithful Wanner ;-). He will be on later I am sure ;-)

I use kingpin grease, specifically made for the job !

I grease weekly in the Morgan season,
believing that greasing and wiping often is more important that type of grease.

As Geir said, more important to grease than to leave things because you don't have the "right" type...
Similarly I regularly use Comma products due to the advantageous price...
After today's session in Colin's garage (cheers mate!! ) I now have a MUCH smoother riding car.
One of the old KP / bush combinations was getting decidedly worn, leading to jittery suspension with stiction at times. Now, the front end is much smoother, but I still have the ride / flat cornering that I prefer.
All in all a VERY worthwhile trip up to Leicester! Roll on next week's Cotswold Tour...

Result. What type of king pins replaced the old ones?
Standard, stainless or hard chrome?

Hard chromed Ian - might as well go for max lifespan. If it's good enough for motorcycles / JCBs et al, it should be fine for a little 4/4
The new phosphor bronze bushes (also from Mufab) are a slightly harder grade I'm told. We'll see how things go, but the ride is so much better.
We also fitted (just about) a first gen pair of DaveW gaitors, bought for my +4 but never fitted. Had to cable tie them in place as they were slightly on the short side. Eventually (when/if) I find what I did with my spare corrugated plastic conduit (similar to the type fitted by NewElms) I will replace the gaitors with that
