Drove from Kilkenny to Dungarvan, Eire, last Sunday (26 April) in the early evening; very cold and going dark. Drove down the M8 and then along the N25 at a cruising speed of about 60mph. Headlights on and both heated seats operating. Stopped for fuel just short of Dungarvan and she would not restart without a push. In the morning she needed a battery boost to stir life in her.

I'm the second owner and the first owner had heated seats fitted after 13 months by a Morgan Agent. The three year old battery is a Banner Starting Bull 12v 30Ah 300A (EN) with bar code 005753040717. Since then the battery has held a charge, but I have not used the heated seats.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is the battery man enough for the job? Do I let the wife freeze? Will the push start have damaged the exhaust emission control system?

We have heated seats and I half expected them to deplete the battery but not so far. If you go to a decent battery retailer they will be able to load your battery and tell you if you need a new one. Three years.. maybe..

If you had them on full lol the way and the battery was already. Bit low then it could have drained it. I'd charge it right up and then get it checked out.

If you take the heated seat fuse out and connect an ammeter across the terminals you can get an idea of the current draw, that will soon show you if they are knocking your battery down, I suspect a battery fault rather than the seats As they would need to be drawing a crazy amount of current to flatten a battery that quickly?

Best check that the regulator hasn't packed in...reading with lights etc. off but engine running should be about 14.5V, if it's down at 12 to 12.5 then the battery isn't charging.

As calum says. The rectifier must have gone.
I have gone through a few.

Morgan released a solution in 2013. If your car is 2013 or 2012 then you need to get the wiring schematic upgraded to the latest specification.
just because a car was serviced at a morgan dealer does not guarantee it has been done.

It was a big thing in the firat two years but the lack of chat on here aboht it shows how the fix must be doing.

You can tell if this has been done by looking how many grounding wires come out of the bottom of the rectifier and connect to the chassis. They are about 6 inches long these wires. If there is only one then you do not have the latest spec.

Transient voltages will have fried your rectifier and it will have to be replaced. This will keep happening until you upgrade the wiring. Take a picture of the rectifier if your unsure.

not likely. i did it a few times a year ago when i had the same problem.
i think the main concern on starting is the valve and cam system which have variable compression for starting.
as i say i don't think it really matters.
