Just heard from a very reliable source that the above will be announced at the factory on Thursday 16 April 2009. Sounds like the same rationale as Aeromax, Limited numbers to be built, deposit required to secure delivery but as yet no name. The same car will then appear at Villa de D'Este

shame they did not launch it at geneva.. unless Villa de D'Este is far better... but it surely wont get the press coverage..

Would anyone like to take a guess as to what it will be? Surely it will be a variation of the current Aero 8? Perhaps an AeroMax with a removable roof section and a speedster back?

Thats the rumour I heard - an Aeromax Targa effectively. Odd really - targas always the least loved of the porsche or Ferrari fraternity. What they need is an Aeromax Spyder for around half the price and ... Oh err.... Ummm.... I'll get my coat..

Let's hope it's not a targa: they are always a great idea and never well executed even when clever technology is employed. I had a 993 targa with the glass roof and it was never quite a convertible and too rattly/wobbly to be a coupe.
The Bentley Continental SC was and is one of the most desired Bentleys of modern times and yet it was one of the worst cars you could buy new in the 90s - it leaked, rattled and gave no end of headaches if you had the audacity to 1. drive it and 2. remove the roof panels.

I favour the old Triumph Stag format, quite a few of my mates had them but it was practical, 4 seats, fold down hood and for winter a hard top, if they had put the Rover V8 in from the start they would still be being made, I'll keep my fingers crossed as a detachable hardtop is still a good idea.

Detachable hardtop is something available as a factory option on the Aero 8 anyway - so I can't see this being offered on the Aeromax...

Thing is being an Aeromax, whatever it is will surely be a very beautiful machine. I heard something along the lines of 'Aeromax Speedster) - so perhaps its a completely roofless machine in the lines of the SLR speedster... With the little XK120 style 'individual screens' it could be a real looker. Completely impractical for our climate of course, but when has that stopped a sports car being built!

Rich, my guess would be similar to yours, an AeroMax bodied speedster - akin to the Mercedes 300 SLR

Now that is an interesting idea...but having owned a no-roof high-days car myself in the past (Renault Sport Spider) it's such a toy that you buy it to own it more than drive it in the UK at least. The weather is unpredictable to say the least and even a leaky hood is better than none at all.
If you have a passenger (wife/GF!) then you start to wonder about the weather on every journey unless they are a Betjeman-esque "mountainous sports girl" which my wife is not. The AR-1 DB7 (remember that) was a very slow seller (even in the USA its prime market) with no roof where the Zagato Coupe was an instant hit. A speedster could be a real looker but its a rarified market given that its bound to be £100k+.
