It's removed in your picture but if you don't the drained oil just catches it and runs down into the footwell and takes ages .

I don't have a centre alloy panel on my car, so there was nothing else to remove. Should I be worried? My build date was 08/2014. Is the centre alloy panel something Morgan only used in earlier cars or am I missing a part?

Sorry, 4a only applies to earlier than 2014 cars then. I wouldn't worry, the floor panels on your 2014 car look a little different to my 2013 car with NVH kit retro fitted. The panels look shorter on yours, maybe the centre one is deleted for more cooling airflow to the bevel box? Unlike a Lotus I cannot see it making much difference to the "downforce and aero package" of the M3W.

Good to hear. Now if I can only figure out how to do everything else listed on the 1000 mile checklist.

Also, I found a photo in an old post by asbojohn and can see how the underside has changed since the model pictured below. The panels are definitely shorter in the 2014 model as you mentioned.

Changed my BB oil to the Redline heavy shock proof stuff today. pleased to report i too find it a little quieter - it sounds happier somehow, like its not destroying itself! Would recommend. Could not get my thin tube into the orange breather hole so filled into filler plug.

Worth doing!

I wonder if the high sulphur 85W-140 Castrol Syntrax synthetic LSD oil that I use the 915 type gearbox with a KAZZ 150% LSD in my 1977 Porsche 911 RSR might be good stuff to use. It is supposed to resist high shear loadings. My M3W is due to go into Esprit Competition in Aubagne in just over a week, for the Mk.1 chassis check/modification and check of the compensator/cushion drive, as I think the second one is now dying, after a massive 3k kilometres. I also suspect the bevel box may not be 100% tight from the clanking behind my back and when they are checking that, they could easily change the oil. I have enough time to order either the Redline or more Syntrax.

I would think any good GL5 spec 80w140 fully synthetic oil should be good. There are no parts for the sulphur to attack. I actually think it's a Hypoid not a bevel so the shear is even higher. I just switched to redline 80w140 GL5. The knocking when you go over a bump on light load is the backlash in the bevel gear and is normal. As the swing arm comes up it unloads the output of the box as the two share the same centre point and then it clanks when the load comes back on. Good luck

Thanks for that info. I was guessing that either the bevel box was loose or my rear wheel bearings were on the way out. I have a spare set of high load FAG bearings in the cupboard just in case to replace the standard NSK ones if they do go. The car had been in storage in the UK over the winter and someone had pumped the rear tyre up to 40 psi. Once I reduced it to the correct 25 psi, the clanking was nothing like as bad. As I don't do long journeys in the M3W, I can live with the whine but as it is going into Esprit anyway, it would be easy to change the box oil. I thought I had a couple of litre bottles of 85W-140 Syntrax in my French house but they must have gone back to the UK in the truck with the 911 RSR. I have a very good Motul supplier who I got some 20W-60 Le Mans synthetic oil for the engine last week and I am sure they will carry a GL5 Motul gear oil.
