When the time comes, hopefully not for a few more years I will change to the hard chrome ones, definitely worth the extra outlay.

Glad to hear the front end rebuild went well, that spanner juggler sure does a good job.

I was talking through with Peter Mulberry how the latest batch of bushes feel a little different to cut (ream) and he advised me that they are a slightly different compound of Phosphor Bronze, harder material. The idea is although a little tougher to ream the lifespan should be even greater, great care has to be taken in achieving the correct fit between kingpin and bush but as Graham saw it is possible to achieve a fit where the pin will pass through the stub axle by its own weight dry and yet hold in place when oiled.....that's my party piece ;-).

Years? I have seen cars that are 18 months old with 6,000 miles on the clock, the owners 'claim' regular greasing and yet the lower bushes are completely shot, a combination of mild steel pins with surface rust, the car laid up over winter and all the mileage done in the spring/summer so the bottom of the kingpin was like a rasp eating through the lower bush was my diagnosis! If that's anyone's driving pattern (it's a lot like mine ;-)) I would advise lower gaiters and a spray of motorbike chain lube all over the rebound spring before you eventually fit hardchromes pins and spiral grooved PB bushes. Job done for many years then. PS 'extra outlay'? The difference between the costs of the pins is very little, from memory about £10 but I am not sure as I won't fit anything other than Hardchromes.

Colin's party piece - well we'd discussed it earlier in the year, now I have seen it in practice.

Apparently 4/4s can be more problematical than +4/+8. The offside was harder to separate than the n/s with a little misalignment of the brake reaction bar too, but strangely the opposite was true when putting it all back together - and the brake reaction bar went back correctly too!
It's a Morgan - they all do that Sir!!!
I'm just very pleased with the expert detail attention and learned a couple of tricks to speed things up...

By the way, the reason that brake reaction bar went back together much easier is I had slackened the inner chassis end fixing to allow the top to align better......;-). Old dodge No. 7, when alignment is an issue slacken BOTH ends and leave loose until all fixings are in and started ;-).

That's the way I rebuild deployable racks...

Me, too. In the meantime I need to buy a grease gun with flexible hose. I was about to buy from a well-known dealer but the gun, the grease cartridge, delivery and VAT added up to just short of £60. Then I looked on eBay. A lot about and much cheaper. Price is not a major objection, but I want to be sure what I buy works, and works well, without over-spending (so easy to do ) Your recommendations of supplier/model would be very welcome...
