Well, I spoke with John Sheally this past weekend at a show and we talked about the chassis numbers. He was sure that they were under the paint on the cross members. I took out the seats and other parts today and sanded down all 4 members to bare steel and still no numbers! Still confused. The numbers are on the top of the members aren't they? Are there any other possible areas where the numbers could be hiding? I do plan on stamping new numbers but only after I can verify what the PO has told me.

Early cars sometimes had it stamed into the wood fame top rail, just behind the drivers seat. Trouble with this was if a new frame was fitted, this number was seldom replaced.

I finally gave up and stamped the chassis number on the crossmember! I couldn't find it and knowing where it was supposed to be I just added it. Enough time spent on that item. Now on to something else.
