Peter, I've had the "curb rash" problems on the BBS wheels on my STi for years now. When I rotate tires I spend some time doing repairs. Lots of masking, filing and then on the worst I mix up small batches of Bondo and after painting the repair is almost invisible. Oh, I have the right color spray paint and I spray a bit to the inside of the paint can cover and let the high end solvents evaporate and do the touch up with a small brush, which I find less messy than spraying

Peter, I would take them to a specialized repair shop, otherwise your eyes will always search for the remaining imperfections. But that's me, not mrs B-O, with scuffs on her 17 inch Mini Clubman alloys all around....! And I dare not mention it!

I'd use the Allygators Peter, see their website. Also a very informative video on YouTube.

Exactly and when you do this is the sort of damage:

I think that fitting some sort of protection is essential. I've repainted a couple of minor marks before but this is almost half of the rim and refinishing is tedious as to do the job proerly the wheel needs to come off and with drying time it takes a couple of days.

As I was taking the photos I don't have one of me...!!
But I can describe them.

Bought in 1973, made in the USA as Levis should be, 34" waste, 28" flaired bottoms, patched in a couple of places and well faded. I wore them to Brunel every day through my last year.

But I can still get into them and do up the zip!!

Coincidentally I caught the near side rear of my Caterham wheel whilst enthusiastically tackling zigzag hill, near Compton Abbas airfield, near Shaftesbury last weekend, so will be following your repairs with interest Peter. Luckily mine is black, so I shouldn't have too much trouble matching. Best of luck with the repair.

My 8 has split rims - a chrome outer and alloy centre. I assume these can't be repaired....
