Bought mine over the phone without seeing it. Test driving would have just confused matters

Have bought three so far and never went for a test drive. Mind you did think that I had made a terrible mistake the first time but it grew on me and once you get it that's it.

Bought my 4/4 unseen and no test drive. Was horrified when I first put the foot down in 5th gear. Quickly sorted with exhaust, induction and remap. All fun now. Sure Roadsters and Plus 8s are lovely but the economy and narrow look are great.

I decided for the 4/4 from -06 and it has now been mine for a couple of weeks. Sadly I have had some trouble with "knockings" when accelerating from low revs (ca 2000 rpm). Have put new spark plugs in and it has helped a bit bit still not OK. Is there a knock sensor on the 1.8 Duratec?

Yes the 1.8 does have a knock sensor but also some of the Ford 1.8 Duratecs engines are prone to excessive pre ignition or “pinking” that the knock sensor cannot cope with (it’s a well-documented on the Ford forums). Mine drove me scatty. I tried cooler plugs and many other things. Contacted the factory in the end and they remapped it.
