So I've been thinking. I'm getting on a bit now.. Late 50's. I have a few toys and beginning to feel the strain of having to look after them. I've never used garages for any work, preferring and enjoying to do my own. Of all the cars I've owned I think my Morgan was the most enjoyable, a rather strange mix of classic style motoring, with reliability and performance to go with it. Plus it's a far step away from the everyday boring cars out there. So this is my thinking... Sell a few of them.. I just can't bear to part with my Velo Thruxton yet (it's an admittance of being too old to ride!) so it'll stay. But selling a couple will fund a new or newish Morgan 4/4 or Plus 4 or an earlier Plus 8. If the plan is to make this one a 'keeper' to see me right if not for good at least a few good years... What would you buy? I'm not a speed freak, don't do track days, have many nice B roads about.. Is a Plus 4 a good compromise? A new one would at least allow me to choose the spec and there has to be a good feeling in buying a new car? Never done it apart from work cars.. Arghh the dilemma... steve

Steve I share with you that the best car I've ever had is my Morgan. I've driven a few different Morgans my humble 4/4 to the new Speedster. If it's B roads that are your local ones then try out the 4/4. For those types of roads it's got enough power & is lightweight, nimble & easily checked around the roads - it's a hoot.

Hi Roger, yes mine was a 4/4, loved it but I wondered if the Plus 4 would be more relaxed? 2 ltr is a good all round capacity for a sporty car I think, enough go without the 'rush' that needs handling on the bigger capacities. But then I've never had a Plus 8 and they do sound luvverly.. Guess I need to try a few.. One will take my fancy ... If only my lottery win would come in and I wouldn't have to worry! S.

I'm the same as you and sold all my bikes( bar one)I didn't need a plus eight but did need a 4 seater ( for the dog) so my OLD CVH 1.6 Ford engine car was perfect for me and HTMBO plus dog ! I could not justify £40k plus on a new one so bought the best 7th hand one I could find.
I haven't been disappointed so far
Good luck with your search

Steve I've driven the old 4.6l plus 8 in South Africa a fair bit on fantastic open roads which are perfect for that type of car with lots of power. I personally think it's over kill for twist windy roads over here but I wouldn't say no to a narrow body plus 4 as I think you get the best of both worlds then.

Got my first +8 11years ago had it for 4yrs put 24,000mls on in that time. Strayed into a new 4/4 Sport for 4 yrs and 24,000mls and now returned to a +8 and that's where I need to be with all that effortless torque and low down rumble from the Librands dual system.
They're all splendid machines of Classic or modern design and we need to appreciate them now before the Eurocrats outlaw them all.

i am like you have had them all Porsche Carrera, Jaguar XK, BMW, Merc, MGB, MG RV8 etc but i have now just bought a new Morgan Plus 4 and it is the keeper i have been looking for. Why you might ask, and the answer is the drive is just perfect and the body lines etc are great - i would go for the new sports seats though as improves comfort. An absolutely fantastic car with no oil leaks! I love it.

Ordering the car from new is an indulgence but a great (and unique) experience. Specifying exactly what you want and then being able to visit the factory and watch your own car being built is just wonderful. You may get a similar experience from Jaguar if you have £1.4 million to lavish on a new E-type! As for which model to choose - test drive them all as they all have different characters. I am one of many who love the 4/4 but know equally many others whose preferences lie on other models. Whatever you opt for I am sure you will be delighted with it.

I started with a 96 +8 but due to lower back issue after 2.5 years moved to a nearly new 3.7 Roadster, would have settled for an earlier one if I had found the right one. I did drive a Plus 4 Sport which was a great drive and pretty quick. So it would be Roadster or Plus 4 Sport, but must have modern comfortable reclining seats.
