Just watched last weeks Supercar, Superbuild programme about the new Ford Mustang. I was suprised to see the base car comes with a 2.3ltr 4 cylinder Ecotec engine producing 310bhp.
Now that in a plus 4 would be fun.

That has to be an error surely? I saw that and thought that no naturally aspirated 2.3 engine would make that sort of power, especially in a mainstream production car. The 2.3lte Duratec in Caterhams CSR only produces 200bhp or 260bhp with Cosworth cams, TBs and re-mapping.
I believe Omex have fully developed their 2.5ltr Duratecs now, this sounds as if it would be a great engine in a Mog? Even better with a supercharger hung onto it?

I thought the same so checked the ford uk Web site and that's what it quotes. At a very reasonable £29k. The 5ltr version is only £33k. Guess it has 1/2 turbos?

I'm sure it is wrong.. no road going 2.3L naturally aspirated production engine is going to produce that much power. The Ford Ecoboost 2.3L develops 310 bhp in the new Ford Mustang and will be 320 bhp in next years Focus RS.

Look at what Lotus can so with a 1.8 with a blower! I had an Exige S which was very powerful and light.

Web site also states it is turbo 2.3l.
Probably find those are SAE figures too, rather than the DIN (and more realistic) figures we are used to here...

The Mustang has an Eco BOOST engine and does indeed produce over 300 BHP. It is a rather good engine, also to be used in heavily revised form in the new Focus RS. As the UK engineer for Mustang I'm not at all biased
