We could stray off into the realms of the chemical make up of modern fuels and the merits of one brand over another. Then again, one can have too much of a good thing................

[quote= The gearbox oil pump is a tad limited in capabaility and apparently heavier oil can challenge the pump and render it u/s; improved apparently on the R380 gearbox.[/quote]
What gear box to be fitted with an oil pump have you? I guess mine on a 2005 Plus 4 has no oil pump and it is a splash lubrification.

Rover 4 speed and Rover 5 speed (LT77 and R380) gearboxes had integral oil pumps. The 4 speed pumps I suspect were easily damaged by swarf and larger bits breaking from what was essentially an under-specc'd gearbox, The LT77 had I believe an oil pump made from fibre parts that could easily be overwhelmed oil heavier than ATF. The R380 came in around the time of the introduction of the 3.9 Discovery and was built to take the increase in torque for the 3.9.
I'm not familiar with the gearbox fitted to a 2005 Plus 4 - sorry.

So, a question for those with remote kits, have I done this wrong?
I have had a remote greasing kit from the Nipple Shop fitted and there are two nipples under the bonnet on each side with coloured caps, one red, one blue. I bought a grease gun along with Lithium EP2 grease. I proceeded to connect the hose to the nipples and pump the grease half a dozen times into all four nipples, which although connected properly to the hose proceeded to ooze out of the sides of the nipple/gun hose connector. Having wiped it off I crawled underneath but there seemed to be no grease oozing out of any connector/joint in the nipple connector/kingpins or any evidence that they had been greased.
Is it normal for the grease to ooze out between the gun hose and the nipple? How do I know if the grease has reached it's destination? Was I right to pump this grease into all four nipples?
Apologies for the basic questions.
Thanks

As Richard suggests, the pipes may not have been purged of air before connecting to the hub and kingpin nipples. Take the wheels off and disconnect the pipes and then pump grease through until it flows from the tubes and then reconnect. You also need to make sure that your grease gun is bearing down on the nipples straight on and not at an angle, otherwise it will not lock on to the nipple and therefore leak.

Many thanks for your replies, they are very much appreciated. The car was new as of March and the dealer fitted the kit for me so I assume it has been bled. They have since had it in for the 1k service a few weeks ago and when asked had they greased the kingpins they said they had so I assume it is working. When I push the the hose onto the nipple it "locks" in place but is still very loose and this is why the grease oozes. I went up to the Nipple Shop who supplied the kit to the dealer and they sold me the gun and hose so I assume it is the correct fitting. Thanks for the tip Jay but I am travelling to France tomorrow with a number of Fellmogers and don't really have time to take the wheels off (not that I would know how, Morgan shouldn't really be selling their cars to inept owners, it doesn't do the brand image any good! ). I have done 700 miles since the last service/greasing and will be taking my gun with me as another 1,500 or so miles will be covered. I will have another go later and maybe take up David's kind offer of a phone call if the connection is still loose.

I kind of agree with Stuart here, in that you 'shouldn't' have to do these things yourself on a brand spanker. However, it is only an air tube that gets filled with grease & if you pump long & hard it'll all come out in the end. Purging just saves time, surely? If that grease is going in, it'll come out somewhere.. PS - Wish I was going to France on my Morgan holidays too..
