We went out yesterday to try the new Jaguar XE, in its 240bhp Ford Ecoboost engine guise.

It passed the first two key tests, the boot is big enough to swallow a bail of wood shavings and it looks "right" according to swmbo

Only a short drive round Basingstoke, but it is so totally different from the BMW: quick enough, handles well when pushing round the many roundabouts and the seats are comfortable. You sit "in" the car, not on it.
Also it has some very clever traction control/hill descent control which seems to have come from the Evoque, so it deals with ice and snow better than any other rear powered modern car and should, with M&S tyres, eliminate the need for a 4 WD vehicle.

We were impressed enough to want a half day drive: the dealer is happy and we will do so next month.

Fortunately there are no 3.0L V6 versions as demmo cars yet. Another 100 bhp and £10K? We don't need it. hide

Has any one else tried it? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Oh yes, almost all aluminium and made in England, like another car in the garage.

Good for taking to the golf course as well.

Peter. I've tried one a couple of weeks ago. It was the higher output of the two Diesel engines. This was to replace an XF 3ltr Portfolio which I sold a few months back. I enjoyed the XE on the test drive thought it handled very well at one stage being encouraged by the sales guy to drive really quickly round some fairly long but tricky bends.
I liked it so much I have bought one!!! Delivery late July early August.

The xe seems sensibly priced. with an audi strategy of affordability with expensive optional extras. 1000 option for carbon fibre veneer was a shock until I saw the 1700 asked for the carbon fibre wing mirror.

Hace you considered an a3 etron after your i3 test drive?

Hatchback is essential - I always go for practicality in my cars!

Not an option in the Jaguar range, but the boot is big enough..

Part of me wants to go the e-Hybrid route, the Golf version is good, but "She who controls the money" SWCTM)is totally unconvinced. She wants power, and lots of cylinders... mad2

Who am I to argue?

Interesting. Seems competetively priced too.

I've been reading car tests in the media. Not a word said against it.

According to Car Magaazine it just beats the new C Class, beats the 3 series and A4 soundly, comparing Diesels.

Richard Hammond, in his various columns, loves the 3.0S version, 340 bhp but he would..

Test day organised for early July. If I still have a job.

It'll suit you Peter....in the good old days, Vice Chairmen always drove a Jag wink

Jaguar have come on in leaps and bounds recently and have a really interesting range of vehicles now.
