Personally I wouldn't worry as the grease from the kingpin and the stub axle nipples end up in the same place.

Also you shouldn't need to bleed the system as the grease gun should exercise enough pressure to expunge the air out.

I use heavy oil on the kingpin nipples and I know when it's full as it produces a hydraulic lock - that is the gun goes solid and it's virtually impossible to push anymore in.

Grease the stub axle nipples and go enjoy your holiday.

Do you need to "lock on" your grease gun to the nipple? Mine you need to twist at the end once latched on to the nipple to lock it....

Problem sorted, thanks for all your tips!

I looked at Richard's idea of the locking hose connector but unfortunately it doesn't have one. Not to be deterred however I engaged the help of my better half. Carefully ensuring that the connector was at the same angle as the nipple as per Jay's suggestion I had her hold the connector in place while I operated the gun. Heaven knows what the neighbours were thinking as I instructed her to "hold it tight on the nipples, I'll pump hard and hopefully it won't ooze out this time". blush

Anyway it did ooze out but this time only underneath the car where it's supposed to. joy

Thanks again.

That's great Stuart. It's good to get the other half involved in the mucky aspects of Morgan ownership....it's all about bonding with the car!

The number of times I've seen faces drop when I talk about grease nipples and the need to crawl under the wings every 1000 miles or so when I'm taking tours into the Chassis Shop. But it's good to get down and dirty with a Morgan.....that's where the Aero owners are really missing out hide

Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks Jay,

The simple tasks that long term owners take for granted often baffle newbies but the longer I own a Morgan the more I learn(with the help of the good folk of TM and Miscellany).

No one has yet mentioned that (bottom) remote greasing block nipples will shear off on cars with damper blades at full lock, as i found out…..
I resorted to re-fitting the standard grease nipples. At the same time i removed the remote oiler system and attached the top remote tubes to lathe oilers. The idea being you can judge how much oil you put in, rather than a mystery squirt.
So the oil feeds by gravity, little and often seem to work and i keep a smalll can of engine oil in the tool box. Mine is a 93 trad, not sure if it would work on other variants.

I managed to get some fluid grease steering box lube for the Bishop Cam box on my TC. I reckon it would be ideal for the top greaser as it stays fluid at normal temps but not so runny as gear oil. Penrite brand.

Do you mean a diagram of where all the grease nipple are?

You should have a grease nipple on the bottom of each king pin (steering pillar that the stub axle slides up and down on) and probably one at the top, unless your car still has the horrid oil shot tube still connected. The front suspension needs to be greased every 500-600miles top and bottom nipples until the grease comes out at the top of the stub axle where it meets the top spring. Wipe off any excess grease ensuring you do not get any on the brake disks.

With respect to the one shot oiler which is feed from the engine oil, most people disconnect this from engine and top of king pins and replace with grease nipples at the top of the king pins. Feeding engine oil down the king pins will just wash the grease out and make a terrible mess.

Each end of the prop shaft is a Universal Joint with a grease nipple, these need to be greased about every 6k miles. You will need to sing the prop shaft to get to them and can be difficult to get a grease gun on.

I do not know of any others, unless other TMers do?

I would recommend spraying the rear leaf springs regularly with motorcycle chain grease so that the leafs do not rust up and bind against each other you will be surprised the difference this makes if it has not been done for a long time. I do every 2-3k miles.

Hope this helps.
