Good question. I carry a 12v compressor which just fits in the tool tray, a small rectangle of wood about 3/4inch thick to spread the load of the jack on soft ground, and a couple of relays. I also carry a standard tool roll with screwdrivers, spanners, pliers etc, and a few cable ties & spare fuses & bulbs. I also keep a sheet of paper in the glovebox as a reminder of what all the fuses are, and a small torch. To be honest, apart from a flat tyre, there's not much scope for a DIY fix on the roadside.

a 2009 +4?
a cell phone a credit card an insurance + assistance (towing & repair) gault & millau & michelin guides a little gps tomtom style
As just said Dave, apart flat tyre, and you already have all the necessary tools behind you, if there's a problem it will be electronic.

Bring reflective vests and spare light bulbs. Reflective vests are mandatory in many countries. If you continue into Spain, you also need two warning triangles.

I thought it was 1 jacket per person. And they need to be reachable without getting out of the car.
As to the tools and spares - remember the duct tape!

I thought it was 1 jacket per person In France, 1 And they need to be reachable without getting out of the car. Right Mine is behind under the board, with the hammer and the little jack lift. I strongly believe that I am supple and slim enough to grab it without getting out of my roadster... H3

It depends on your ability to make a diagnosis and fix the car at the side of he road, I normaly take enough tools and spare parts to carry out a minor rebuild,
Gaffa tape, rad weld, rtv silicone sealer, insulating tape, random bits of wire, various eletrical terminals, cable ties, nuts bolts and washers, jubliee clips, fuses, various bulbs, brake fluid, brake cleaner, WD40, rope, coil, 4 plugs, condenser, HT leads, half shaft (only in the Dellow), fan belt, water, ptfe tape, engine oil, axle oil, hand wipes, latex gloves, ground sheet, grease gun, jack, foot pump, wheel brace, copperslip, exhaust U bolt, octain booster/lead substitute and some clean rags, and tools.
If you don't fancy that then I would go for the mobile phone and RAC card option
