However it has battery issues, I have 'rescued' the battery a little but the writing is on the wall. I have an iPhone 4S on a cheap monthly contract that limits call minutes (I have plenty) and data to 300MB a month (I normally use 30-40MB max of my allowance). Very interested in downloading an App but which one? How much data do they eat? I can buy an additional data package and have no objection to do that but what I keep coming back to is by the time I have bought the App, a mount, an updated data package per month am I not close to the less than £100 for a new Tom Tom from Halfords? I don't need EU coverage as I don't drive there anymore?

If you choose the right app, the maps are fully downloaded to your phone and you need no phone signal or use of your data allowance....the phone uses its built in gps.

I literally had no idea! Can you recommend an App for a Tom Tom user please as I am used to their logic?

In fact Jay just looked in App Store and the Tom Tom App is being slagged off for locking up, not being transferable if you upgrade your phone, live updates don't and basically does not seem very good. Also as I mentioned the price is about 50% of the cost of a brand new Satnav? Looks like a trip to Halfrauds when my battery finally dies is on the cards.

The Sat Nav App Co-Pilot is set so the display stays on, be pointless otherwise, also auto detects the dark, and will dim the map, I think you can use a reflection on the glass on some. co-pilot has waypoints, so can plan routes, detours etc, also has live traffic feed if you choose to subscribe, also can control and play music at the same time, it kills music when you get told to turn or take evasive action, for those oracle challenged it runs on an iPad, by the way the Steelie will hold an iPad as well and a phone.

as I said SIMPLES!

Charles, yet it does, but when the three wheeler works I try not to tow it everywhere ; )

The Porsche Sat Nav is set to English, but in France attempts to speak English with a French accent, Paris for instance is pronounced Paree. Consequently it's virtually impossible to understand the thing anyway!

One of my Tomtoms does that. I once lent it to my sister & it made her laugh so much that she had to pull in & stop until her hysterics died down.

I use to have Kim Cattrall's (Sex in the City) voice on my TomTom. If I took a wrong turning she'd tell me I was a naughty boy.....I'd often take a wrong turning.

I use Skobbler GPS Navigation by Scout on my iPhone downloaded from the App Store - can't remember how much I paid for it but I've used it as my main Sat Nav for years when travelling for work without any real issues

I have it set to speaker on the phone and not through the Bluetooth in the car so I can ignore the spoken directions if I want to and carry on listening to my car DAB radio without interruptions

Because it's on my phone - it's one less object to worry about

I use map.me as a back up sat nav to my old fashioned piece of printed paper
