My 2008 4/4 uses the Mazda gearbox - and a great box it is too!

Was she built using the Mazda box or did you change the gearbox later on?

No the 2008 was factory built from new with the Mazda box. It's a sport so maybe that explains it?

It must have been fitted post build...the Mazda box wasn't fitted until the start of the 2012 model build, which was around Autumn 2011.
The only difference the Sport models have is the lack of spare wheel and therefor th flat back panel....otherwise the specs are identical.

In that case fitting a second hand Mazda box may be a very good option. The Mazda box is superb.

But is the standard rear axle ratio of the pre Mazda cars the same as what is needed to fit with the Mazda box? If not, it would double the costs, if yes it could be a nice option, if the cardan is at the same length etc.
Anyway I don't regret having a 2014 4/4 with the Mazda box, all I need on B roads.

Like Jays I fitted the 4.1 diff- to my 2012 4/4. Then added the full Aero Race stuff to get 163 bhp at the wheels. The Mazda box makes the most of the power.
