Try lifting it, it's not aluminium!
OK I believe you but there must be a logical reason why its not ali It is a structural/strength issue together with the metal that goes across the car forward of the scuttle where the wipers are mounted is also steel. My +8 handbook / publicity brochure comes with a picture of the car body before painting and you can see quite clearly the different metals in construction. Attention at the back! We are talking about Three Wheelers It makes sense to produce all the cowls in the same metal and then just paint or polish them.

I know we are in an M3W topic but I just wanted to comment that the part referred to above is aluminium in the current construction.

Well I'm a bit confused now
I thought the cowl on my 2000 4 wheel trad was aluminium so assumed that the M3W cowl would also be aluminium and particulary as a lighter weight would be of benifit and the cowl being more a style nosing
I've just put a magnet to my 4 wheeled MOG cowl and it is steel
But now I'm told current 4 wheel cowls are ali and M3W's are not
Not that it makes any difference to my life at this moment in time, I still want to get to the bottom of this as I have a little Morgan dream of having bonnet and cowl in polished engine turned aluminium like The Spirit of St Louis and when I order my M3W'er (yeh right but we can have a dream) having a polished engine turned cowl

Thanks for the details on the cowl.
Do you all know if the roll bars are the same painted stainless? I was thinking of getting them chromed, but not if I can just polish them.

It seems from what Peter has said that the current production 4 wheelers are all ally whereas my 1999 was part steel.

In spite of what the MMC say about lightness, it has never appeared to have been a priority for the Three Wheeler which should have been far lighter than it eventually turned out to be.

I was at a light aircraft fly-in today and there was a 1944 Auster there with a fact sheet - empty weight 499kg or 10% less than the M3W!

The Auster is a "Steel Plane" as well with some steel structure rather than the more conventional alloy and wood of that time.

It seems from what Peter has said that the current production 4 wheelers are all ally whereas my 1999 was part steel. The plus 8 has an aluminum chassis, but the 4 and roadsters have steel chassis. Apparently they use the newer aluminum chassis for all the upper end Morgans, starting with the Plus 8. Probably having to do with cost and manufacturing techniques but I'm sure someone here can probably add additional details.
