the speedometer location in the 3.7 roadster is not ideal for viewing from the drivers seat, particularly in speed camera area's, when trying to keep a more careful eye on things. I am looking to get a GPS Speedometer to put in front of me, has anybody any idea on the best models around ? there seems to be a vast number on the market.

As they a cheap try a cheap one first the wired windscreen may have an effect (probably not in mog normal mode though) with the roof up.
I like the idea of a HUD style one.

I've seen good reviews of this but never seen in person. Click here.

I don't have a lot of faith in GPS speedos. I am sure they can be quite accurate on a straight road in open country but in the city where there are tall buildings, or in a mountain valley, it is too easy to lose the signal of one or more satellites and the speed can not be accurately calculated. Judging from the GPS navigator and the GPS system in my dashcam it is also difficult to have an accurate speed on a winding road.
A better bet may be to get a small, cheap android phone (no SIM required) that has bluetooth and an OBD II bluetooth adaptor. The phone could then be mounted in a convenient place and with an application such as Torque can be set up to display the real speed of the car. It could also be used to view and/or correct any fault codes.
Naturally you could always use an existing phone. One way or another you would probably not leave it permanently mounted as it would be too tempting for the tea-leaves.

That is an excellent idea. A decent android 'phone can bought for less than £50 on eBay and the Torque app plus Bluetooth adapter wouldn't be much mare than £10 in total.

I use my iPhone mounted on a Steelie Car Mount it will also neatly mount a GPS device. The ball is in the centre of the black panel and the iPhone is rotated landscape so it does not impede the other dials or heater switches. I have a retractable USB to iPhone cable stuck under the dash using double sided number plate tape so no trailing wires. The phone GPS apps I have tried are Speedometer, MotionX and the MPH readout of Co-Pilot, the most accurate I have found to be MotionX, closely followed by Co-Pilot, Speedometer is quite accurate but can loose tri-angulation for short periods, however it can be adjusted to reflect a true speed + or -. I find Co-Pilot to be the best to use as it audibly warns if exceeding the prevailing road limit, you can set this to be higher by 5mph increments, and also warns of safety cameras. I used a combination of these to check the calibration of the speedo on my 3.7 Roadster when trialling the ECU upgrade for MMC and my speedo is now within 1MPH at 70mph. Originally it was reading 62-63mph at a true 70MPH (this will vary with tyre wear). I would suspect that most 3.7 Roadsters will be similar with the original ECU as it is locked down by Ford. I doubt Peter's suggestion of a reader will work with 3.7 Roadster ECU but would be interested to know if it does.

Many thanks Peter and Adrian for the information. I have iPhone 6 so will give this a go first with a GPS app subject to the results I will then possibly try Peters idea of OBD reader and Android.

I doubt Peter's suggestion of a reader will work with 3.7 Roadster ECU but would be interested to know if it does. Adrian. I am reasonably certain that the standard ECU would be readable for road speed on the OBD II port, it should be. But with the MBE ECU upgrade it would depend whether or not they are still using the original ECU for dash functions, and if not whether or not the new ECU is connected to the OBD II port.
