I'd get nothing in then! My 2008 +4 is a "slow fill" and I have to get the balance just right on the pump trigger, otherwise it just cuts out. It usually takes me about five goes before I eventually get the balance right.

Same here, quiet often think it's full with multiple clicks only to drive off and see the gauge showing 3/4 banghead

Nick posted a Top Tip on here some while ago.... I could hardly get any petrol into my +8 and a visit to a station was a 15 minute affair!

Inside the petrol cap, there's an aluminium flap (which opens when you push against it with the nozzle). This flap needs to hinge at 12 o'clock - if it's not at 12, shuffle it around (it rotates freely) with your fingers.

And hey presto! The car is so much easier to fill.

Mine takes 55 litres and may go further.

I had to drain and flush my 1993 4/4 tank.
I did some checks on the gauge to determine how empty E actually was and found just over a gallon left.
I found a diagram with tank dimensions and calculated a 55l capacity.
This left a 50l fill when showing empty ( near as dammit).
I haven't checked the Plus8 yet.
I have no problems filling up the Plus8 (2002 model). But then I do have an aftermarket LeMans cap. Big bugger!
I fill to first click for max.

Thanks everyone.
I'm off across France using a lot of D roads and from past experience seem to remember fuel stations are few and far between.
I tend to fill around 1/4 as the +4 goes from "1/4" to "E" very quickly.
I have previous for running out of fuel in France.
swmbo is coming to push onto the forecourt if necessary!

So is the true capacity still 12 gallons (66 litres)?

55 litres equals 12.1 Imperial gallons, and a bit under 15 US gallons,

cheers,

Jon.

Thanks Jon.
Never was much good with metric.
Thought it was the Morgan coughing out fuel!

- sometimes I just use this:

"A litre of water's a pint and three quarters"

grin2

(it's actually 1.76 pints)

So, it's (very) roughly 4.5 litres to 1 gallon.....

The metric/ imperial conversion shows how much petrol goes up and down
2p per litre is 9p per gallon.
It adds up when filling to the brim!
We are accepting these small price hikes too easily, a stealth tactic indeed.
It makes finding the lowest price sometimes worthwhile, a short extra distance resulting in a cheaper fill.
There is an app for smartphones that monitors local prices and that helps.

As a lad I had a Go Kart 197 Villiers Engine used to go to the garage with a gallon can 1 shilling to fill it up. 5p.
