Well, it happened to me too.

Just off the highway into a right corner and the engine puffs, wheezes and gives up. Managed to push it home, believe it or not.

It was a puff/gassy sound, not a clank/mechanical one.

Oil light on, check engine light on.

Have gas. Normal petrol pump sound from rear when ignition on. No help from a battery booster. 12.5 volts ignition on.

Removed ground wire and cleaned the connection. No frayed wires.

Spark plugs were a bit loose(!), now tightened. Spark from both. They look ok.

Oil cap seal intact.

Fault codes:
PO170 Bad Sites front
PO173 Bad Sites rear
No idea what they mean. Anyone?

Maybe rectifier, but can´t get one until next week, if even then. Might go the Ebay route.

Suggestions?

Oil change recently? Is there any oil seeping out from the air filter area?

You might want to have a look under the cam belt cover. Could easily be a snapped belt. Easy fix if it is once you have a replacement belt anyway.

Sorry, I knew I had forgotten something.

Cam belt is ok.

A little "greasy" air filter, but not loads of oil.

Tried starting without air filter - no change. A puff and a wheeze and it gives up.

Oil changed May-June last year. Due for a change now.

Have 8280 km on the car (5150 miles).

Does it have a MAF sensor? If so disconnect it so ECU uses default values. Might work. Or that's what my google research tells me.

Just a maybe, but it could be that the fuel pump sounds like it is running normally but is delivering inadequate pressure to the injection system. From memory this has happened before and would need a fuel pressure gauge connected up to find out.

Would link to the codes based on Google.

Don´t really know if our engines have a MAF sensor. Do they? Where is the connector in that case?

Have never had the valve covers off. Not sure I want to start now... *hunkering down, cowardly*

Don´t have a fuel pressure gauge. If i can find one, to which fuel line do I connect it?

I'm several hundred miles from my M3W at the moment so I can't check but I think there is a port on one of the fuel lines to the injectors. Most garages will have an appropriate gauge and adaptors to make it fit. I also don't have the S&S manual accessible so can't even give you a pressure to llok for.
Sorry...
