My wife and I were very fortunate to walk away from a head-on with a Sprinter van in Normandy a few weeks ago. Sadly my 1996 Elise (an immaculate 2- owner 20,000 miler) was written off.

RAC Europe sorted taxis and a hire car without any fuss and Aviva paid out virtually what I paid for the car 12 monts ago

We were driving down the one-way road to Omaha Beach and met blanc-van-homme on a bend, he was driving 'up' the 'down' road, presumably to save time - he should have returned to the main road via the American Cemetary

Picked up a replacement Elise a couple of weeks back, so the score is Morgan Lotus 3- all

Looks like you had a lucky escape and by the sounds of it you and your wife weren't hurt? Even so, a major inconvenience. I'm still sorting out a should/ neck injury and claim from being hit by a 44 tonne lorry 12 months ago.

A Morgan is not so bad regarding a comparable crash at the front, at least a Lotus is also not a Volvo. A good fortune you are not injured at all.

My wife suffered a bruised foot, had a ride in an ambulance and x-ray at Bayeux A&E, I was merely shaken

The Elise's aluminium tub absorbed the impact, and was distorted in the process, no repairs to the bonded tub are possible, hence the write off

A real case of all's well that ends well Richard. Glad that neither of you were hurt, but nevertheless a nasty experience.

Look forward to seeing photos of the new car, shame it's not another Morgan! smile

Took the train to Barrow in Furness and drove home in this. To be honest the green 'un was irreplaceable, - chassis number 215 right from the start of Elise production with many desirable features. This yellow 1999 car is mechanically very good but the bodywork is a bit scruffy. The idea is take advantage of any decent weather and maybe take a trip to the Gorges du Tarn and then to smarten it up over the winter
