Hi, I have done a few miles in the sunshine since collecting my 4/4 (1988 12k miles)from Lifes motors in Southport.
During the rides, when negotiating rougher roads/speed bumps the suspension bottomed out and caused some concern.
I have done some searching about and the Rutherford AVO shocks look like they may provide a solution to the problem. Does anyone have any experience of the issue and the best way to resolve it?

I must admit I fitted Konis to my 97 +4 & am very happy as I couldn't see me clambering about underneath to reset them all the time. Plus I used them on all my motor bikes & never had an issue.

Trads don't have much suspension travel & having good tyres at the right pressures help. Make sure they aren't over 10 years old.

My roadster was equipped with AVO's by the first owner, so I can't compare to standards. Up to recently I had them on the softest setting and it's never bottomed. But last week with a 'big bloke' in the Mog it bottomed, so I adjusted them one click. It seemed to firm the front up in particular. Anyway, this weekend I've decided to go another click so now I'm on two. But I haven't been out yet to test. I think there's about ten clicks to go.
It takes no more than a minute each corner to adjust, once you know where the knobs are.

Thanks chaps, the info is very useful.The spare tyre is identical to the ones fitted, so the likelyhood is that they are original - well over ten years old.

I have the AVO's on my sprint car... I've had the suspension bottom out a couple of times at high speed. If you are still running the original high profile tyres you can bump up the damper setting on the shocks with out loosing too much of the general road comfort.

May I suggest Leda shock absorbers? Meabh.

I have now fitted the Rutherford AVO Shock absorbers (front and rear). The difference is significant, no bottoming and the car handles very well. It is a lot tighter but remains supple, the best news is that the number one passenger approves - so the job was worth it.

I have a set of these (bought from heart of England) ready to be fitted in place of the factory shocks on my 2004-built 4/4. I'll post a report of how I get on and what the results are.

I notice that there is also a set of Rutherford-designed front springs - anyone tried these?
