It is good to see Morgan are finally taking this issue seriously , I wonder if it has been forced upon them as they refer to "close contact " with the DVSA .

Sadly there is still an element of denial " during normal operating there have not been any recorded instances "

This is presumably because they don't record them ! My car has never been used anywhere other than on the road and yet the chassis cracked and then bent ....

I imagine that those of us who have had replacement chassis will not need to have them inspected ? Mine looks like the latest ones .
It would be good to have had some paperwork when it was returned to me confirming it had been upgraded , has anyone else recieved anything ?

Thank you Mark, MMC and Brands Hatch Morgan. Phoned BHM this morning and they have managed to squeeze it in before my holiday.

I can absolutly confirm that my 3w has been subject to none other than normal use. The three other cracked chassis I uncovered at two meets were on normal cars also. Of course you cant blame Morgan for having the letter written by their legal advisors given the litigious world we live in and the number of cars sold in the states. I think the way its written stops this becoming an offical recall.
At least Morgan are owning up to the issue now.

Bear in mind that normal use for Morgan, means polishing the car every day and using it once a month!!!!

This is exactly what happened in Australia. Oh "we've never seen this before" - until a range of other cars across 3 states have the same non compliance issue and the Feds were called in. Morgan was forced into "close contact" with our Federal Department of Infrastructure - and boy did things happen then...

Another disingenuous letter from the MMC. How on earth would they know the type of use an individual car has been subject to ? In fact they know very well that this isn't the case.

The early chassis are cracking because of a design fault not because of the type of use.

They are taking action because they've been obliged to by the DVSA. Shame on them that it had to come to this.

I'm pleased for owners of early cars that this issue is finally being resolved.

Hmm , that means there are at least 5 known instances of cracking during normal use .

If the letter was written by legal advisors I think perhaps they in turn need legal advice about knowingly making untrue statements !!!

Sadly, as has been mentioned manufacturers will always deny serious faults one way or the other, even though, quietly they will actually be helping with rectifications.

I remember a Caterham I owned back in 1997 had a DeDion tube on which the bottom shock absorber brackets had peeled away due to inadequate strengthening, a bit like the chassis problem, and Caterham flatley denied there was a problem, and accused me of hitting kerbs with it, which I hadn't. They grudgingly sold me a new tube for a small discount, 10% or 15% I think, even then, I had to fit it myself.

Anyway, after a thread was started on the Club forum, Blatchat, it turned out there were dozens of other tubes which had suffered the same fate, all denied by Caterham. Some of these failures had caused pretty serious accidents, one at least, in which the driver had been prosecuted for dangerous driving.

Guess it's the fear of litigation and hence all correspondence being written by the company lawyers.
