I would have thought it would have been better to leave that sentence out . I can't see what is to be gained by writing to your customers telling them something you and they know to be untrue .

In hindsight i was being overly fair to Morgan. The letter is disingenuous. They did sort my car with no quibbles and indicated to me that they would repair any chassis at any age. They also sorted it very quickly. However i did feel that there is an air of secrecy at Morgan and the impression I have had with this and other issues is that its a case of please keep your mouth shut! Also Morgan apear to have favoured customers. The sprocket issue being a case in point. I am a hight millage csutomers and have spent good money on getting my own sprockets made! When others have been given warranty replacements and asked to trial steel ones. Hopefully Morgan can change there culture. After talking to the 2 And 3 speed guys I came away with the opinion that the only way forward is to develop and fettle the cars yourself as they have done. I still love the old girl, i dont love the brand!!!

Surely if you've taken it upon you're self to have a rear spocket made, you've passed the insights to others? We've tested various coatings and materials over a long period of time. What you think is a cure, we may think won't last! All of the upgrades ( although sometimes late) have been done at cost price in an effort to help owners. We have never turned away from a ptoblem and always try to resolve any issue. This is why i don't post every often, forums get emotional and emotive, there are 180 jobs and over 100 years of history. As you can see here on TM, one of the main things we discuss are 'fixes'. Perhaps you can explain why at just 3500 miles, my sprocket shows what my dealer calls 'normal wear', while my 20 yr old Harley (30K+ miles) shows no wear ... And in regards to the 180 jobs, the majority of which are 'craftsman', and I mean no disrespect, did no one notice that the rear floor bulkhead bolt heads chew holes in the fine, expensive English leather ... And at over 100 years of history, I would've have thought that brought a simply ASTOUNDING level of attention to detail to the product ... Best of luck with what follows

Thank you Mark for communicating with us.
Ownership of a 2013 M3W for me has been a mixed experience of despair and absolute pleasure! Lack of knowledge of pending issues has been one of my concerns. Would it be possible to provide owners of the early cars with a list of all the upgrades and modifications available to date and an updated service schedule?
There is no denying what a wonderful car it is - nothing in my experience matches it for fun. The car now being produced by Morgan I am sure is well sorted - we just need to bring the earlier cars up to the later spec, in a manner that works for both Morgan and the owners of these early cars.

I don't know what you lot are complaining about? At least YOU got a response...... Lets see what happens now? In hindsight i was being overly fair to Morgan. The letter is disingenuous. I will also say Thanks to Mark E for giving us the update on TM and I for one fully understand that Forums can be argumentative and emotional places to chat - but also massively useful as well. Design and functional issues aside, I think we should celebrate being able to have such a close relationship with our cars' manufacturer, which is a privilege not enjoyed by 90% or the buying public. Not even a niche manufacture like Caterham have such close, almost 'personal' links to their customers.
Even Audi are pretty much still in denial about the failures of the DRC suspension components on RS4's and RS6's over the last 10 years and it was forum power that forced their hand to deal with the issues fairly - flat denial was difficult to disprove in the pre-forum era. Anyone who makes anything for sale to the public these days needs to be very careful in matters of this nature.
By way of another example, I was at a trackday at Goodwood yesterday and had my chassis inspected by Mark Reeves whilst we chatted about my G56 kit amongst other things. MMC were there to support on of their dealers and they didn't just post a couple of demo cars to be thrashed around - they sent senior folks who really took an interest in us all. Can't imagine Herr Geschaftsfuhrer Audi pitching up at The Ring to chat to happy RS drivers...?!
Anyway, just saying!

Your right Mark I have passed on my insights to others. Against my own better judgment I had a dural and hard anodised sprocket made. Waste of time. Although if you ignore the sqealing long enough the sprocket will quieten down and function ok for up to 10k I feel. I would just have liked the benefit of your experience earlier, vocalised through my dealer perhaps. I have always said that the factory have played fair with me but it has also been on the understanding that we as customers maintain some discretion. Yes these forums are emotive and sometimes intemperate. My intemperance is justifiable on the basis that: I believe that that being informed that a cracked chassis is due to hard use by the customer is unfair and untrue. If of course hard use is doing 18000 miles in two years then I am guilty as charged.

I agree Matty , saying there have been no recorded cases in normal use really wound me up , to be blunt , it is a lie .
I'm somewhat behind you on the mileage at 15400 miles and coming up to three years . I haven't done many miles lately due to sorting out new house . My last 2 journeys have been spoilt by petrol spraying over the windscreen on one and then a rocker cover gasket leaking on the next one ......
