I was initially looking at a 968 or a 993 both totally different. Anyway to cut a long story short I eventually turned to a pre 1990 911 (1989 SE G50) because it offered the classic 911 shape, simpler mechanics like the earlier vehicles. It took a while searching to find the right car with exceptional documented history well spec'd and no problems with the sills, kidney bowls or other rust prone areas. There are a lot of bodged up 911's out there.

I just love driving it, very involving but also very comfortable on long journeys. Definitely a keeper.

On a slightly different topic is this relevant, is the Porsche bubble about to burst?

Goodness - there are plenty on e-Bay for the third the price of an average Morgan.

Not seen that site before Brian - talking of financial bubbles, went to a local car show at the weekend and a chap who has a number of classics, including a 1989 911 Supersport came over talking.

The car was one of the last 3.2's made and still has only 40,000 miles on the clock, but when new he says the car had twelve owners in nine months.

He contacted the original dealer out of interest for an explanation, and was told that the car had effectively been traded as an investment commodity by city types who were speculating the price would rise - many of the owners never saw the car.

No reason to disbelieve him, but not heard of this before.

Bubbles may arise, but you can count with secure base prices on serious "normal" cars. If a good Carrera 3.2 now costs 50.000 to 60.000 Euros it will never again sell for 40.000 Euros.

It is another case, if a 356 speedster will go for 2 Mio (bubble) or 700.000.

By the sounds of it the only way to buy a classic is to get someone from the relevant car club concerned who is qualified to inspect the classic to check its authenticity ? Cheap at the price compared to a non original classic bought by mistake ?

The previous owner of my 911 bought it purely as an investment. I paid market value for it and its gone up since then. He was a city boy who only used it a few times but he made £20k in a couple of years, a tad better than what the banks were offering. He's now got into earlier Porsche stuff, 356's which are big money compared to a 3.2. There was a 4000 miler 3.2 described as being as new for sale recently for £115K which I guess will hardly turn a wheel and is one for the collector / investor.

A 4000 miler 3.2 for 115GBP is a paradox investment if you want to enjoy your car. Depreciation due to added milage would be more than on a new one.

Can I ask why Morgan's - sorry new to Mogs here - are not enjoying the same increases as classic cars such as 911's, E-Types and even TR Triumphs etc etc.

I must admit (and sorry for the honesty) buying a mid nineties Plus 8 (what I want) is not attractive compared to the "rest of classic car market"....or am I expecting too much??
