But for me the ideal balance of driver experience and useability would be the 200bhp 4 cylinder trad. Some of us actually enjoy the 30's experience of being shaken, AND stirred.
AR P4 seems ideal for you

......and fitted with all sorts of driver "aids". My Supersport is fitted with a driver aid - decent driver training from a "World Championship" driver - meaning that in over a year it hasn't once tried to kill me.

Like you Ken, although the Aero-chassisied does not have loads of driver "aids" (part of its charm for me!) on the open road the handling is pretty benign, though coming from a Plus 4 like Giles friend it may seem quite powerful and a handful. Everything is relative I guess.

I've talked to at least 20 MOG owners who, looking at my car, said that they would buy a new Plus 8 if they could afford it. Is that like somebody being "rude" (telling the truth?) about your children when you show them a photo?

My issue is not with the +8. I have seen Brian's and I thought it was stunning. I am also certain that they are exceptional to drive. My issue is the assumption that just because you chose not to have one it is because you can't "afford one" I have now decided to add another individual to the two on my "ignore" list.

I talked to a chap with a new plus 8 while waiting to board a ferry at Dieppe earlier this summer. He had previously owned a plus 4, loves the new car & said that the main thing he missed about his plus 4 was that, unlike his new plus 8, the plus 4 wasn't always trying to kill him. That is funny

Like you Ken, although the Aero-chassisied does not have loads of driver "aids" (part of its charm for me!) on the open road the handling is pretty benign I think part of it comes from the way the car has been setup, having spent some time deliberating trying to get it go sideways - and hold it so (not on public roads I may add), it never feels natural. The car has distinct suspension transistion phases which encourage a wider analogue approach to accelerative forces. Its my view The spring rates don't encourage trail braking but instead a tidy braking section, followed by an aggressive turn in phase before a progressive throttle phase. Saying all that I have spent a number of days alongside a WTCC driver honing my skills to be far more in tune with what the car is actually doing and to drive with it rather than force it to something it will never do well. Even prior to that I had a Caterham instructor quiz me on the balance I was getting out of an old BMW - cornering far quicker than he had expected.

When I brought my plus 8 in 2012 they was little I interest in it. Now all of a sudden the new plus 8 seems to be in vouge, funny that.

Martin - I think that the charm of the Aero was that it looked like an Aero, even though each model is different. So an Aero which looks like a Trad didn't immediately appeal to the Aero fans? When the new Plus 8 emerged there was a lot of criticism, a bit like ARP4 is getting now!
SFO - Yes ARP4 is ideal for me, were it not for it's "Drag & Drop" punk accessories. Limited Edition = Limited Appeal. No doubt it will sell well, but I couldn't live with any of the detail of it, which is a huge shame because I was ready to order at Silverstone and had set up a meeting with somebody from BHM in order to set the wheels in motion.
