Went out for the day. Drove 30 miles and pulled into event we were attending. Whilst having our ticket checked, car out or gear and ticking over. Suddenly engine stopped with a judder (like a stall). Tried to restart, engine turned over but no sign at all of any firing. Smell of fuel. Thought might be flooded, pushed car off road and left for an hour.

After an hour tried to start - again turned over but no sign of an ignition firing. Did the basics looked for loose leads, checked key fuses- all OK. Called out AA. He checked key electrics. Fuses, spark plugs etc - all OK. Plugged in lap top. All seemed OK. He fired some quick start into inlet and engine fired up briefly. He concluded fuel was the problem. Checked under tank and detected fuel drips.

Removed spare wheel and tank cover plate. Turned on ignition and as fuel pump ran, fuel sprayed out of the fuel pump "return line" over the tank to the floor (pretty scary when you think of the proximity of the exhaust. The single use red connector from pipe to fuel unit had partially disintegrated allowing massive leak. Return line is under greatest pressure when on tick-over. Consequently no fuel pressure to engine no ignition.

AA conducted a temporary repair using the remains of the existing single use red pipe to fuel unit connector and tie-wraps to secure the pipe into fuel unit. Ran the pump- no leaks. Tried to start the car and it immediately fired up and ran smoothly. Still no leaks from problem coupling. Put every thing back together and drove home with no issues.

Contacted Williams who advised me that the single use couplings could not be purchased separately but they will fit a new one when I take the car in for its scheduled service..

Question. Any Talk Morgan Members experienced similar issues with the fuel pipe to fuel tank single use connectors? Anybody been able to source the single use red connectors. Any advice appreciated.

I had a similar experience when I was driving my 2011 Supersport P4 and was in outside lane overtaking vehicles when the engine cut out followed by a strong smell of petrol; fortunately I happened to be near a petrol station and was able to avoid vehicles and coast onto the forecourt.

When stationary I applied the handbrake and tried to re-start the car to no avail, so I got out of the car because of the strong smell of fuel and looked underneath the rear of the car and noticed a puddle of fuel.

As I have breakdown cover, I called for assistance; the technician arrived within half an hour and he was not able to get underneath but diagnosed a problem with the fuel pump and transported myself and said Morgan home.

To cut a long story short, my local Morgan service garage reported the clip that holds the fuel pipe to the pump had broken and I was obliged to purchase a new fuel pump just to obtain the clip at some considerable expense (£532.86)!! I have ended up with a new boxed Ford fuel pump and sender unit, minus the clip in my garage.

Interesting: these connectors are supposed to be "sealed for life"...whatever that means.

"Hats Off" to the AA Technician, solved the problem amd cured it enough to get you home.

There are several numbers on the box.... as follows;

H96916

I have no idea which is the part number.

Incidentally I understand that the end of the fuel pipe had a groove or "lip" which wasn't pushed fully home so that it was secure, and that could have been the reason why the connection failed.
