I like the Auto even without the paddles in the Coupe. If you combine it with the loud dual sidepipes it can be quite naughty.
Leaving it in self shifting mode it pulls up to a higher gear quickly as you progress and the low revs make the sidepipes very very deep and thunderous. It makes you love the torque and light weight.
If you then push it to the side and use the "tiptronic" feature on manual override it makes it quite a bit quicker and a lot more interactive. Also the big knurled handle is very nice to the touch.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I find myself using the gear lever to change up and the right hand padle to change down, no idea why, not logical but it seems to work for me.
Yu are right, the big knurled lever is a delight to touch....

It was great meeting up with you and Janet again and taking you around the factory....getting down on our hands and knees looking under cars etc...great fun!
The Firenze Red on the car we saw looked stunning and more so out in the sun. You've chosen a nice combination. It was also great seeing Brian's car parked there...Brian....sorry if we covered it in sticky finger marks...we were trying to see how you'd had the Cibies fitted!
In the past I've always favoured the Trad cars over the Plus 8 although I've always rather liked the Coupe and the later Aero 8s. We spent a lot of time yesterday studying the chassis in great depth and some of the details are beautifully executed. I've driven a few Plus 8s ( particularly Tarka...pre Tarka!) and a Speedster a couple of times and whilst they are very addictive, they've never quite done it for me....I think its more the apparent width of the car rather than anything else. But since seeing Brian's car with its Cibie Oscars fitted and rack on the back...not to mention the cut down windscreen and old fashioned hood...I've changed my mind. As mentioned elsewhere though...I think that the car wears certain colours a lot better....and in Firenze Red it certainly works. Sorry to miss you guys at the factory yesterday, we got there at about 4.00 pm to sort out some of the additional alterations to my car. Firstly congratulations on your new car Derek, it sounds a great spec. The Cibies on mine were fitted at the factory, but I know they used the last set of brackets from when they used to fit them to the old Plus 8's. I will PM you with more information. I spoke to one of the director'so today and he confirmed that you had got the last slot for a Plus 8 this year and in view of the launch of the Aero 8 no new Plus 8's will now be built until at least August next year (2016!). It seems that whilst the German market took to the new Plus 8 fairly quickly, it is only recently that the British market has responded in the same way and that has caused a small run on orders. Maybe as a recent convert to a Plus 8 adorer John, you should put in an order now for next year as the Cayman may be due for a change by then?

Had we managed to meet up, that would I'm sure, have been a real pleasure. Your car looks absolutely superb so much so that I can even forgive you for taking the last brackets! When Oakmere told me there were only two slots available my first thought was it's a sales try on but I checked with another dealer immediately and went back within the hour getting the last one. We are meeting up with John on the 24/5th September and hopefully will be able to see our car in the early stage of production. Quite excited and cannot wait, just like a big Kid really.

first of all , congrats Worthers+8 on your new Morgan !!!! i just regret 1 thing ... and IMHO... a auto... as a maniac on manuals ( never drove a auto , don't want it, even if i could get the car for free ) My problem starts with dailys.. I drive the LAST manual BMW 530 break ,year 2013 ...no more availeble, yes auto so my opts , sure for future, are oldtimers...mine are all manuals, and what i see is that the manuals are much more valuable then auto's... but sad to see now that in such beautifull retro cars as a +8 ( or Aeros) more and more people choose auto's... so future wise... less choice. Pitty ... Ofcourse you have to drive your new car ... your choice ! ALL respect !! little story : when i orderd my BMW 650 convertible "manual" some years ago at our official dealer , i even had a mail directly from the BMW factory !! if i was right on option "manual"... haha, yes i was ! enjoyed that car 4 years untill our governement invented a crazy extra tax for such a company car ... so i sold it. I'm not stupid

I know how you feel BB. My daily driver is a manual 2007 Audi RS4 Avante in which I've clocked up 265000km. I drive about 45000km a year mostly on the open road. 420hp through a manual box into 4wd is a pleasure to behold :-) The replacement model is tiptronic/auto only. When mine eventually dies I may well go for the same year with as few km's as I can find. I've had a couple of tiptronics but prefer a clutch and a stick. As said 90% of my driving is open highway. If I was city bound I might have a different view.
Yes Jays, I can almost taste it .....

The manual vs Auto debate....
IF the Aero clutch and box were as sublime as, for example, the MX5 or even the 4/4 it would be a harder choice.
But I drove a couple of Aeros with manual boxes and they were, well, not nice. A heavy clutch with an "off/on" switch action and a ponderous heavy shift. Also there is NOWHERE to rest the clutch foot when not otherwise unemployed. So for me an auto with paddle shift is the preferred option, on an Aero.
