Having just finished the BHM track day at Goodwod parking in the Chichester Hotel a local guy came over and started chatting as they do when they see the car about the local area. He told me the story about the local council wanting to buy shingle from Lord Marshes Estate which he refused saying this was an area of natural beauty this was found to be incorrect and the council made a compulsory purchase leaving quite a hole behind them. Later Lord Marsh wanted to sell this piece of land to Rolls Royce so that they could build a factory. This upset many of his neighbours and the council refused planning permission on the grounds of the land being one of natural beauty. However he had evidence to show this not to be the case. This is why there is the Rolls Royce factory just round the corner from Goodwood! He the told me the tale tale of the council banning motor racing at Goodwood. So Lord Marsh said he would use his drive to race his cars and this was how 'The Festival Of Speed ' was born! Tall tales or what! Returned to my room to find a very disgruntled boss. Where the hell have you been you only went out to the car to get your phone and that was an hour ago! Life is never dull with a Morgan!!

A point of pedantry: he is Lord March, or more accurately Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara.

As to the rest of your local's history lesson I will say no more!

Looks like it was a good day out, Roger. I've seen some of the photos, including one of your goodselves with huge smiles!
Did you manage to miss Op Stack in reverse on Tuesday then? M20 was closed due to an accident between J7 and J6 in the early hours so lorries were being stacked from Ashford to Maidstone - everything else diverted along the A20. Gridlock, again!!
Sheer bliss (NOT) living around here!
