Interested to read this as with any list has moments but did strike a cord with one:
Gordon Keeble - now I've been toying with buying a Bristol 411 and rehashing to my own specification all year. Manual (maybe modern auto), completely reworked and lightened into a GT. I've found one or two very cheap in bits, amazing hand build quality, the budget when doing so sort of stretches to a 1970's V8 Aston which may be the end of the idea. The Octane article however compared Bristol's to a Gordon Keeble which looks better, has better spec and was a manual. Seems like I should just get one of those? Anyone know anything about them, spaceframe chassis and V8, can't see what the body was made of I'm guessing ...?

Not sure - but always seem good value, and low production. There are two for sale in the press at the moment, a powder blue and a red one...

They are generally in the 30k and under range when I've seen them priced - there is one in C&SC this month at that level...

justin banks had a manual one last year which i pondered sounds daft but starting to get up to serious cars - 550 money and all that upgrade discussions....

Steve Purnell has (had?) a GK that had been rebuilt to the tune of £100k by the previous owner  It was up for sale at approximately £50k iirc. This is the car . Having met Steve, I am in no doubt as to the cars condition; however, it is still a lot of

The thing is, these rare cars are best left reasonably standard - because mods can damage values, unless made reversible. There was a special bodied Alvis in C&SC or CC Mag a few issues ago - Graber I think, and it was superb - a real looker. But I have a soft spot for the Lagonda Rapide (4 door saloon). I was taken Christmas shopping to Sheffield pre 1960 by a friend of the family in a Rapide. When we stopped in the city centre, a crowd of people surrounded the car...... It left a lasting impression, and when they crop up for sale I look wistfully - but it's not really viable unless I found a garage with better access (or moved house). Anyway, that Alvis is high on my virtual list just now.

One of the things going for a Bristol is that the company still exists, and is not only making new cars (albeit not too many), but also servicing and refurbishing the old ones. Parts support is amazingly good.
My Brigand is right now with them for some gearbox issues. The Brigand used a special extra-strong version of the Torqueflite, but that only caused a slight delay as Bristol had to source the right components.
