Not being a 4 wheeler owner (yet!) I find this discussion very interesting . I was wondering if anyone has experience of driving a car fitted with the Mulfab wishbone conversion ?

As far as a members annual dealer survey is concerned. Yes, I think this is a good idea. The whole Morgan Dealership group should also be checked for quality of service and correct trading standards.

This is a painful subject. I think with Hardhrome pins, Vesconite Bushes and 30 years hands on experience I should get 100,000 miles. But to be realistic I have seen first time KP's/bushes at 50,000 miles and good for more. But I take them apart and inspect at 20,000 miles. On My Morgans I always find something I did not expect. Even when I use "State Of The Art" materials. Or so I think.

I cannot help thinking that MMC really missed an opportunity when they developed the M3W.

They spent time and money developing a modern front suspension for the trike when trad mog suspension would have looked better.

Surely it would have been better to put the new wishbone suspension on the cars and kept the kingpin system for the trikes that, with a few exceptions, don't do big distances?

I drove the mulfab demonstrater when it was for sale at Williams, it was a nice drive, well planted car, but not mind blowingly different. I don't think your average driver would notice the difference on a normal drive. Of course I was not in position to drive it to its limits.

My Plus8 (2002) has done about 20k+ in the 3 years I have had her.
MOT last Nov was fine...no play noted. Total mileage now 49k.
In the history file there is no sign of any kingpin work. New Konis were fitted about 9 yrs ago by RT and set at " medium". The springs are Mulfab ( printed on them) so if not standard as factory fit there might have been an unrecorded job done.
I grease regularly at 1k miles max, usually less or if on a long run/ weekend trip.
At last MOT the only issue was slight play in the lower steering UJ - simple nip up of clamp nut needed the joint itself fine....annoyed I missed it during checks!

A very interesting topic. Very helpful.
Can anyone out there tell me what front suspension set up I might have on my October 2011 plus4?
Also how do I locate the grease nipple on the drive shaft? And how often does it need greasing?
Thanks, John

You will have the standard Morgan Sliding pillar front suspension on the front of the car. You can see a picture of the components at http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/sus.html The wheel is mounted to the stub axle and the stub axle rides up and down along the king pin. There are two bushes in the stub axle. These bushes are made of varying materials. Not sure what you would have. The king pin goes inside the upper main spring and the stub axle is located between the upper and lower springs. There is a shock absorber there in parallel to the springs to reduce the oscillation.

The best way to find all the grease nipples is from below the car.

Cheers,

Gomogs diagram is for older cars. Your car Johnny, will not have the damper blades but a ball race bearing instead and a grease nipple replacing the oiler on the top of the kingpin.
