Giles,

Sorry to hear about your woes, made worse by the dishonesty of the other driver. Hope you get it sorted as painlessly as possible.

The 'dermot' swap is an very old TM joke. Those who have been here since the beginning will remember a member called Yuri - an eccentrically brilliant Russian Aero owner was single handlely re envisioning his Aero 8 (often with the help of copious amounts of vodka and the assistance of female companions). There was a chap on here called 'Dermot' around the same time, who was annoying and upset Yuri one day. Yuri gave him both barrels and his final parting shot was that 'dermot' meant sh*t in Russian. Since that day, I changed the auto word swap to change the words. I doubt many remember the exchange , bar the very early members, but it still makes me smile. Simple things!

Sorry to hear your bad news, hope you get it sorted quickly.

I had a similar experience early one morning last week. I was at the junction at the end of our road, patiently waiting as a hatchback approaching it indicates left, I am going to turn right, I look left, right and left again, same approaching car slowing down and still indicating left. I glance left before turning out to right only to find the hatch back bearing down on me with indicator off, I floor it and stare at the young woman who has also turned her wheel towards my back wing. Was it deliberate or not I do not know, but it was very close.

The shops don't have CCTV, but I'm confident about the witnesses - they are people who work in the shops. I'll get them to give me statements & drop the whole lot in the lap of my insurance broker. [/quote]

Really sorry to hear about the damage to your lovely car Giles but glad to hear there was no injury involved.

This has to be the right approach Giles, he sounds arrogant in the extreme and maybe will not have thought it through by preparing his defence as you have although you were the innocent party.

Last years altercation when my Sport was written off I handed it all over to Headley/Hiscox (no witnesses) without saying a word to the other party other than the necessary interchange of details, this resulted in settlement in full plus excess returned and an intact NCD all within 3 weeks.

Good Luck with this scrote.

Pleased to say that he's not one of my customers. That would be a bit embarrassing.

I've never really understood why so many people are immediately dishonest - your car is damaged, it's his fault and his first thought is to lie. What a lovely person.

Sorry to hear your car's been damaged. frown

Just to put faith in humanity back on track - A few years ago I ran into the back of another car at a roundabout (thought he`d pulled out but he hadn`t) . Said it was my fault & swapped addresses & insurance. Nice guy (built like a Dermot house!).
Left it to insurers to sort out. 3 weeks later got a £10 cheque in the post from the guy - He`d seen in the local press I was running the London Marathon for a charity.
Road love? - much beter than the rage.

Indeed. The difference between you & the bloke who crashed into me Phil, is that you are a gentleman.
