Very nice.We carry a couple of folding chairs a rug and a few hats on the parcel shelf behind the seats the roof also has enough room to be folded behind the gap and the seat .On the early roof with the glass window the secret is to angle the window downwards in the fold and it dissapears leaving a very clean line on the car. With a quarter of an inch gap when the windows are up near the rubber door surround the roof is watertight its the gap thats a bugger, hey its a Morgan.

I LOVE those GTNs and wish I'd bought one. I bet that 4.6 Alpina engine has wonderful torgue too and this must be the quickest (standard) Aero derivative in the mid-range... Enjoyed the engine in a friend's Alpina BMW 5 series.

Enjoyed the engine in a friend's Alpina BMW 5 series. Alpina engines tend to be very good! That one has 470nm at 3800rpm - the post 1999 engines went from 340 to 347ps and the torque swelled to 480nm (at 3700rpm). Alpina sold the engine back to BMW for use in the X5. The N62B48 gives an extra 23ps and 20nm, the lattered delivered another 200rpm lower down the rev range. Saying all that - Alpina engines tend to produced very strong horses and are typically quite conservative with their numbers. Tales of Alpinas not being beaten my their M-brethern are common. Talking with the bods at Alpina when they launched the latest B3 they were told in no uncertain terms by BMW that their 0-100kmh was to begin with a 4 - which they found rather amusing having had it independently tested and confirmed to go sub 4. All makes sense - of a sort! You've made me realise my next 'sensible' car might need to be an Alpina of some sort - so much more refined and cad-ish than the M Beemers!

Absolutely - I can't recommend highly enough a 530ps sensible car (Assuming you can stomach 18mpg fuel consumption in "normal" use)

(Assuming you can stomach 18mpg fuel consumption in "normal" use) 15.7 litres per 100 km or 6.37 km per litre, or about 4 km per €uro. I wonder what you get if you drive it in a more spirited mode?

Official figures are 18.6/8.7/12.3 for urban/extra/combined (all L/100km). Considering the majority of the last tank was urban 15.7 isn't too bad. Steady cruises can return close to the extra figure. The SS did 14.2 l/100km in the same sort of driving. Considering the engines being fed neither figure is particulary disturbing

(B3X Saloon) Ken, according to Wiki the BMW N62B48 is used in the S4 Aeros. Did I read your post correctly in that the motor was "developed" by Alpina and then taken over by BMW for the X5? If so what would the present S4/S5 Plus 8 Motor make if it had the Alpina engine map, rather than the BMW X5 one?
