It's also worth mentioning that early easy ups had a fragile rear frame which in an odd case broke, so press down both sides with equal & careful pressure. With the hood cover in place I don't secure the catches. The hood sits OK under it own weight with only an occasional knock on a rough road.

Yes. I too normally leave the rear unclipped with either the tonneau cover or the hood cover.

Agree about the release handle being rather stiff but suppose it does have quite a job in releasing the pins , think I will try getting some grease into the pins to make them more inclined to pop open !
As has been said TM is an excellent forum due to the help from many experts here !
Definitely much better now and have used grease sparingly as Peter said or it will get onto hood etc .

With excess grease on the pins it is a certainty that you will get grease on the back of your shirt as you reach in for the umbrella.

We have two nice folding/telescopic handle type umbrellas, in a colour to match the hood,that fit nicely under the side of the passenger seat nearest the door.

These handles are stiff - I felt worried I might break mine when using it but I was being over cautious. Have you tried giving a stronger pull on the lever - it's tougher than you would think and it has to be forced past the resistance to undo it. From personal experience, I can testify that the handle can break... Cheers, BertR

BertR Yes, as pointed out earlier, the lever arm of the release mechanism is too short. After Trond Bråthen installed his revised release mechanism on my car, a gentle pull is enough to release the hood. Harald

There are more durable handles on the market which would probably not change the unit cost significantly. Perhaps, in the continuing search for 4/4 perfection, the MMC might consider this as a priority, some time before the centenary in 2036.
