Yes, you are It does slide to some considerable degree. The other reason is to give some spring tension against the retaining ring I would imagine. Its a bit like a kilner jar
Took her for a run and very noticable difference Much louder pump noise when ignition turned on. I would also say performance and throttle response is greatly improved. I wonder if a failing pump produces enough pressure to run the car and not prompt a low pressure warning light( which is still on) but does cause poor performance. I think not likely but any thoughts anyone
The new pump had some sort of positioning extrusion on the top edge of the pump. It would have prevented the pump from sitting in the recess on the petrol tank. It was easily removed with hacksaw and file. I was rather annoyed that the pump needed modifying. However close examination of the original showed that this extrusion was also removed by Morgan at the factory. They had done this with less finess I might add. So dont panic when you get your pump and it looks wrong!
I also had to remove the sender arm. Just cut off with small bolt cropper.
BMW are recalling X5 becuse of fuel pump failure. Apparantly due to poor nickle plating in the pump assembly. The x5 does use this pump! I will be writing to Morgan to see if they will exchange the old pump and reclaim from delphi?
