Whilst fitting a remote greasing kit I noticed that there was a shim projecting from the pad/calliper assembly - see pic 1. The problem had occurred on one pad on each calliper - see pics 2 & 3 for the detail.
I spoke with Caparo who promptly exchanged the pads for a new set FOC.
The car is a 2011 Plus 4, 4,000 miles and three main dealer services.
The problem doesn't look like it would lead to a serious braking problem (I'm not an engineer) but nonetheless clearly the situation isn't as it should be.
