Given how long its taking me to make up my mind what to change to, I enter this discussion with hesitancy but fools rush in ............ A 1950s Sunbeam Talbot Alpine for me please - but would probably need the addition of power steering and preferably floor gear change.. You would need Trustran rust killer by the bucket full! Morgan is the last real sports car... So what other car? Cheers,BertR The "last real sports car"? Nonsense. There are loads of alternatives. The difficult bit is deciding which one. I'll give you a few starting at the Morgan price and going up, open cars only. 911 boxter sportster ferrari 430 and 360 F type vantage V8 soon to be announced Lotus Evora roadster I have tested all bar the Evora and the 430 an F type were memorable. The 911 is a really good true sports car but if anything too good and competent. And you will lose money on it faster than you would do marrying a Playboy bunny. If you want cheaper then you could do a lot worse than a Mazda MX5 If you just want a car with a bit of poke then the range of fast hatchbacks is huge. No 1 son has a BMW M1 - 1400 kg 325 bhp and it goes like the proverbial. I wouldnt admit it to no 1 but I suspect its faster than my Elise R. And by all accounts there are faster Renaults and Fords. Ye gods! Finally you could always go "hairdresser - BMW Z4, Merc SL or even (yuk) a TT. In terms of reliable comfortable cars with ridiculous levels of performance I reckon we are in a never to be repeated decade. After this come the Dysons on wheels.

Ah Howard you do know how to win friends and influence people I would not always agree with Howards posts but on this occasion I entirely agree apart from the Porsche bit where if you buy an air cooled Porsche for the right money and with good history you should not see any depreciation. There are plenty of excellent open top sports cars around and if you like sports cars old or new then surely you can appreciate the engineering, the design and aesthetics of each manufacturer. Probably heresy on this site but Morgan's (and I love mine) are not the last word in sports cars. I will agree however that a very old design such as the trad with modern mechanicals and electronics is quite unique.

IF the requirement was to remove the Morgan from the fleet it would be purely to free up capital - with either an M3W arriving or an Alpina Roadster S - with the remainder of the capital being used as required.

Yes, I love my Morgan, and can't see me getting anything to replace it. But the last vehicle I will dispose of is the Land Rover. Yup I'm the same. At the back of my mind though is to sell the 4/4 keep half+ of the funds and trade the everyday car for a well preserved XK8/R coupe... Or something along those lines, that could enter/exit without too much trouble...

Land Rovers or Jags? I've seen 2 XK8 convertibles for sale recently (well, last couple of years) that have the conversion. Wouldn't want a rag top...

I agree, the earlier XK8 in coupe form is a stunning looking car and relatively cheap. I'm not usually keen on red cars but I saw a supercharged XK8 coupe last weekend in red and it looked superb.
