I do hope that this gets sorted. It really isn't good enough on a new car and although unusual is very off - putting.

Any fault should generate an error code. If it's the wiring, the error codes could give you (your dealer obviously) a hint of what part of the loom is causing the error. A bad connection can generate the same error code as a faulty sensor or any part of the system that cable is connected to...

I have seen a number of cars with intermittent faults that do not generate an error code.
Not much help to the OP though... I do hope your dealer sorts things out, but I fully understand your reason for wanting a refund... I'm not sure I would have been as patient for this length of time.

Of course you are right Graham - I should have written 'could'. I have even experienced error codes without any obvious faults...

Drove the car home from the dealers today..all now appears OK. They fitted three ECU's before they found one that worked ok. Thanks for your support guys.

Sounds very odd to me. It was probably after they fitted the 3rd ECU that somebody told them they had to program it to accept your key otherwise the immobiliser would not let the engine start.

Depending on the type of immobiliser it may need to be programmed to accept the spare keys too. I suggest you try your spare keys just to be sure.

Yes -- I bet that's what happened.
