My dear wife spotted an item in today's paper which she thought might be of interest to me. I found the paper open on the table in the dining rooom, so I could not miss it. The title of the article was "the last true men's cars". My (quailty) paper runs a minor auto related item on Saturdays. However this time more than one full page! The author explores if there are still cars for true men. He is testing a Porsche 918 and a Morgan 4/4. He also considers a 4x4 VW and a Defender. He concludes with a description of his Morgan experience. Normally, we Morganeers conclude journalists just don't get Morgans. Not this time however! He concludes that "this is how driving should be" and "the car really creates a connection between body and soul". If other car builders do not find this simplicity, then nobody will ever know what driving a car really is. The Morgan is the last true men's car!
We TM's knew this allready of course!
I include the link to text of the paper in Dutch.

My aunt Daisy was a speedway driver. She could hold a hot Holden in a power slide far better than most men. Were she still around she would probably pick up that copy of handelsblad, fold it into a small truncheon and then beat the sexist journalist about the ears with it. If she didn't my wife would or one of my daughters would. While the journalists conclusion about the Morgan being a driver's car is something I can agree with his implication that Morgans or certain types of car are some sort of male only domain is as wrong as it is dumb. Sorry Bert, I know your post was not meant to start a discussion on sexism in journalism.

Auster, you are right i never intended that. Newspapers often tend do use headlines to provoke.
What I did want to bring across was that this journalist appreciated the Morgan, as we do. In a way your ant Daisy would have liked it.
Kinf regards,
BertR

Aunt Daisy could have explained to my boss that chewing out a set of Michelin radials on a Holden Torana S in 8,000 km simply meant I was not trying hard enough.

Yes Bert you are right she would have appreciated the Morgan and its driving characteristics. It's good that you posted. Thanks.

Peter unless you were driving an XU1 Torana you probably were trying! I've now forgotten what the S model had in it. I was an EH man (lad) myself. Yella terra head, triple 13/4 inch SUs. How did we survive?

Given that I have a Morgan, a Porsche and a (proper) Land Rover, that must make me a "true man" yippee happy3

I lived at Woy Woy and my office was at Mount Kuring-gai. 60 km of lovely twisty roads every morning (pre Newcastle Expressway), little traffic and no police radar smile

I remember the Torana S as a well balanced car. The one I had was the LC two door coupe version with a floor shift and the 6 cylinder 173 cu in (2,835 cc) engine. It was essentially the untuned version that was the basis of the GTR and the XU1 (which had a 3 litre engine).

It must be very difficult to find one the same today. I have searched on the Internet for a photo and any surviving examples seem to have been turned into XU1 replicas.
