After 1800km my exhausts broke for the 1.time. Thanks to the big effort of my dealer (welded and reinforced) we were part of the wonderful Grindelwald meeting at the beginning of this month without any problems.:-)
Now, after a sharp ride thru the hills of the black forest this weekend ( with a big smile:-D) they are broken again after 3100km. No smile :-(.
My car was one of the last ones in the Brooklands line, built at the end of december 2014. I hoped Morgan had solved this known problem at the end of the production.
Question: Is there any Brooklands driver who has solved this problem already?

My dealer assured me the problem was solved. I took delivery mid November 2014 and have covered just over 2,000 miles so far. I check the exhausts after every trip and they are holding together for now.

Feels like a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. That and all the other potential little surprises just waiting their turn are somewhat souring the experience.

I know quite a few of the threads are now telling us how we ought to be focussing on the positives and no longer whinging about all the negatives. All I can say is I never considered myself a glass half empty sort of a chap, but now I'm wondering.

Back to the title of an earlier post I submitted. Such a shame.

I wish you luck with your problem, and being a fellow Brooklands owner I will be keen to see how things are resolved for you.

Let me know, and in the meantime I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and a positive outcome.

I dont think anyone should feel bad about having a moan on this forum.
Most of what has been said is fully justified. Most of the problems have been the result of poor engineering and sub contractor management.

Morgan have fitted items to the 3 W which are known to fail on the doner vehicles and feature prominently on other forums. Fuel pump from X5, compensator from Harley Davidson, mark 2 compensator from screamin eagle and a voltage regulator described as crap by everyone.

However Morgan played fair with me when my 3W was under warrantly and I hope they will continue to develop and learn from what has been I am sure a very costly few years.

I am still waiting to hear if they will meet me half way on a failed fuel pump!
If it could go wrong it has on my 3W but for all its faults its still the best car/ bike I have ever driven and i hope I can afford to stick with the old girl.

If you are stinking rich or even moderately so, the Morgan experience can always be a positive one: I think Morgan have relied on this to be honest. However many of the three wheeler brigade have put very hard earned, begged and borrowed but not stolen cash into their purchase and do deserve better I think.

Morgan need to change and start making craftsman built not just handbuilt cars.

Well put Matty. Use of the word craftsman sparked off another memory for me.

My father was a superb craftsman, yes I'm biased, but, if his bosses wanted a job done once they gave it to Arthur. If a colleagues substandard work needed putting right then, yes, you guessed it, they gave it to Arthur.

On the other hand he was sometimes hauled before them when he took an hour to do a job and all the other chaps "only" took forty minutes. Not all the bosses were clever enough to do the maths when he told them that his hour was less than the forty minutes they took plus his hour or so putting it right. We won't even go into the effort and time (money) needed to mollify disgruntled customers.

I have sadly inherited none of his ability with the spanners, but I do have the eye for detail he instilled along with the do the job right first time and you only do it once. Cheaper in the long run he assured me.

My mother loved Morgans, my father absolutely hated them. I won't use some of his phrasing but the slapdash workmanship he saw in every one he worked on almost made him froth at the mouth. He simply couldn't understand how they were allowed to leave the factory, and more to the point how people continued to throw their money at them. Anyone notice how history seems to repeat itself here? Or am I just being cynical.

It is important to give context here. He was equally dismayed by Jaguars, as was his brother, a lifelong Jaguar mechanic, and the effort needed to get them ready for a customer even before delivery. Astons weren't his favourites either. I could go on.

At the other end of the scale he was far more positive about the likes of Alvis, and to some extent Bristol and so he wasn't just dismissive of all the brands.

He was convinced that time and effort and above all thought before jumping in with both feet could have prevented many of the issues that befell many of the great British marques.

Were he alive today he would have said to me,"told you so" when I reeled off all the potential pitfalls awaiting us as M3W owners. He would also have asked why, after all he'd ever said to me I still went out and bought a Morgan.

I keep asking myself the same question, along with just how do they keep getting away with it, and, can they keep getting away with it. Well, my dad was having these same thoughts some 30,40, 50 years ago and more, and they still are. Just what form of black magic is it that remains in Morgans employ?

Now, as a separate story when my brother went out some ten years ago and bought a TVR Chimaera you can just imagine how dad reacted. A separate story indeed....

Apologies Brooklands21, I hijacked your thread there. Robbie is spot on about Mario, give him a go.

I was led to believe that Morgan and the exhaust supplier were playing the blame game, with no clear resolution. As the car only ran to 50 examples it strikes me that we may be left high and dry if the so called "fixed" version we both have proves just as bad, as yours clearly already has.

Would a swap to the standard pipes be feasible? Sadly it was the Brooklands pipes, along with the wheel that drew me to the car in the first place.

I would be interested to know what Mario has to say.

I agree 100% with both Matty and stantheman .

I wonder if it's time to change some of the people at the top ?

Craftsmen do not grow on trees - they need to get educatd and need to get experience and need retaining the spirit .... and they need to get proper payment, otherwise they open their own shop very soon.

Morgan didn't solve yet - as far as I know - the issue with the M3W Brooklands exhausts.

If, as of today, there's no change in the placement of the mounts, and/or in the length of the "flexible section", any and all new set of exhausts will last no more than 3000 kms.

More on that later this week. I'm compiling the info I need to convince Morgan to go back to the drawing board.

Cheers all
