Just got back from a week's tour of Mid/North Wales via The Marches. Not one wet day and the roads were a dream compared with ours in Gloucestershire. Very little traffic, sweeping bends and vistas, perfect surfaces. No wonder all the bikers head for Wales!
We did 500 miles with a couple of days off for walking. After many years owning a canal boat (now sold) this was what we had in mind as a replacement for our holidays. 'The Mapmog' has so far exceeded expectations and we are so pleased with the car and the adventures we have had so far. After 2600 miles the engine improves all the time and pulls so much better than when new. Apart from pinking if pushed hard (hopefully sorted soon with remapping) the car accelerates nicely and copes with all the extra weight of our luggage really well.
I love bikes so it is always gratifying to get a friendly thumbs up when being overtaken on some of the mountain roads.
Here are a few of the highlights.
Old fashioned street pumps, Weobley, Herefordshire.
Clywedog Dam
Mountain Road. Dylife to Machynlleth
Fairbourne Railway. The driver of the train shouted "Nice Car!"
Pemaenpool Toll Bridge. Didn't venture to the pub as note the gearbox removal device in front. All Morgan owners beware!
Fame at last! We made it on the Toll Bridge Facebook Page.
Llyn Gwynant near Mount Snowdon.
Llanberis Pass
B4391 from Bala over The Berwyn Mountains. This was one of the most enjoyable roads of all with wide open sweeping bends, heather in full bloom and not another car in sight.
Nearly had a disaster though as with a millisecond to manoeuvre I managed to miss a large stone. Thankfully it cleared underneath and missed our rear wheel. Phew!
Lake Vyrnwy Dam
Lake Vyrnwy
We treated ourselves for the last night at the superb Lake Vyrnwy Hotel.
