I think that's true with the later water cooled cars, my German friend said exactly the same. However the older air cooled cars are generally seen as classics IMO with little or no status attached to them. Perhaps the older early 70's RS versions that change hands for hundreds of thousands of pounds to investors / collectors are the exception. I certainly didn't buy mine as a status symbol, I bought it because I liked the engineering, the Marque history and the driving experience, plus I had always wanted one from being a small boy smile

Agreed !

I agree my time with 911s (80's models) received mixed reaction from other road users and observers but my favourite car,my 1960 356B was well received with smiles, couteous driving and always a crowd round it when I returned to it...I had to add time to any journey to spend time to talk to people about it !!!!!

Get that with my 4/4 sometimes...!!!!!

I think I know what you mean with "status car" but probably better not to worry about it and buy the cars you want rather then what some people may or may not think.

I've not perceived any negativity towards the Porsche in the last year, only positive comments, similar to the Morgan.

Not sure if it would be the same had it been modern.

Perhaps if they have a negative attitude towards it they just keep quiet.

Having said that, I remember when Dogman Jack bought the Aero, he told me that an elderly woman told him off while he was at a petrol station saying "how dare you drive that car in these times".

Some more Porsche madness. Dropped Cayman into dealers to have GTS switchable exhaust system fitted and my courtesy car for the day is a fully specced 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet , 430bhp and £109k! I'm not complaining!

Well I have one complaint....the rear window is like a letterbox!

Bit more madness - the cup holder on the million quid 918 is actually a no cost option whereas the electro front axle lift system which raises the body by 3cm costs $10500 - would be handy on the mog though!

Authentic leather interior is a $27,000 option as is special paint.

On one of the Porsche blogs a 918 owner mentions that the purchase price used to include worldwide air freight but this now has to be paid for, so it cost him $27,000 to fly it to the states.

I would have bought mine on Amazon Prime and waited a few days.

I remember a trip to Salcombe a few years ago, when there was a new Carrera 4S in the hotel car park. The couple with this car did nothing but complain about luggage space on the first night. Under questioning it turned out that their Aston had suffered damage the day before the holiday trip. The hire company dropped the Porsche on their drive that evening - it was all they had, but the Aston owner didn't rate it at all.

Oh and a bloke at work took his Polo in for a service and came away with the big one - Tourag? V10TDI.

"Nouveau riche" are seldom pleased we are up to our plimsole lines down here with them - properly set up folk know how to conduct themselves in a polite manner - these new aliens that are appearing down here in their droves are objectionable in the extreme. The local businesses would rather take a hit than serve them, it's as if they had no proper "checked" upbringing or taught the common courtesies of life..

They could have course been a "home from abroader" still hankering for the empire and not a German product, we seem to find them in every bolthole down here as well, Wingco's, Rear Admirals and senior brown jobs abound some of whom are contributors to the community and an asset.

Anyway most have left now and it's bloody wonderful down here cloud9 stars
