Only came across this today.
Am I alone in being neither surprised, nor particularly concerned?
All the so called emmissions tests, be they California, USA, EU or wherever are totally unrepresentative of real driving, which is why the published mpg figures are so meaningless.
The test cycles are political devices to allow the pliticans to claim they are doing something to improve air quality. I wouldn't be surprised if the real world figures for NOx fronm Eur 5 and Euro 6 diesel engines are far worse than the "test cycle". But there is no real, comparable data for the real world emissions.
VWs defence should be that as the testing procedures are meaningless they followed the lead of legislators and produced meaningless data. I agree it's meaningless but will be a flaky defence when there has been an obvious at deceit

Wait for it ----The Yanks will jump on their high horses and seek to exclude European cars from their market --- classic protectionism from "the Land of the Not-So Free"!!!!! Will we see the investigation expanded to cover the US industry -- I doubt it.
Their only problem is that they were outsmarted!!

Deceit or creative test passing?
Funny how Humvees are on sale in California - given their stringent rules? big V8 diesels cleaner than an Audi A3
American Automotive protectionism anyone?
My 700cc smart Roadster wasn't allowed on sale in the USA because it failed to meet their emission rules!

Re sale value of all VW models?

Well I didn't buy my Golf for its emissions. I bought it for the 170GTD engine with excellent economy and build quality.
Would I buy another VW - yes, because I suspect that most of the major manufacturers are manipulating emissions one way or another.
But this event could really damage VAG financially and prevent them entering F1 in a couple of years. Heads need to roll, and I wonder how high up the food-chain the knowledge went.

Just think, if they insist on a recall so that the cars run within the emissions regulations they will have to reduce the power output so everyone will have a slower car
That's a lot of hacked off customers
