Please let's not forget that some owners may have medical conditions that mean having PAS means they can continue enjoying a Morgan, that aside PAS is not something that is required in later +4's. My 2002 +8 was very heavy at parking speeds and load sensing PAS would have been of interest, as someone above states the system is reactive to steering load imput so effectively does nothing as the road speed increases anyway. I was recently invited to assist a friend change his Morgan, from an older +8 to a newer +4, the newer car came with PAS, it put him off at first but when he road tested it he said you could forget the car had it once moving. On the steering bearings Andy mentions, I have seen quite a few standard MMC bearings where the rubber boot has deformed and is trapped inside the main spring and is actually winding up and adding resistance, best to have a good look at them during checks and services. The other advantage of the Mulfab steering bearings is the ability to replace the very soft later front springs with quality 140lb springs (as they used to be some years ago) and cure the crashing and bottoming over bumps in the road.

Unless you require power assisted steering to help with physical issues, recent Plus4s do not need it. The steering is not light nor is it heavy.

My 4/4 has not got PS ...you simply do not need it.

I drove a Plus4 with PS recently.

I found it very good.

BUT you really do not need it! IMO!

I will have it on my new car ,my present plus 4 does not have it nor does it need it but the new car has the had brake between the seats and my wife is very keen to drive it ,she has short arms and couldn't reach the fly off hand brake in the traditional position .
The new car also has wider tyres so will be heavier at parking speeds so to make the car easy for her to drive and enjoy I am going to invest in power steering this time..

I cannot fault your logic. Sometimes we make decisions like this just to minimise the "tinitus of the passenger seat".

The EPS on the Roadster 3.7 takes a while to get used to and even longer to loosen off and develop some self centring. Once both have happened IMHO the overall on-road driving experience is better, with, as previously mentioned, a useful degree of damping. The variable level of assistance is well judged only giving assistance when it is most needed. I have owned 2 unassisted Roadsters and one unassisted but damped Roadster Sport and definitely prefer the assisted set up for the road.
However I would doubt that a +4 would need the assistance other than for physical reasons.

I'm with you Keith, my Plus 4 has power assisted steering and I love it. Come on chaps, embrace the modern whilst loving the traditional.

Do not have it my narrow bodied +4 and do not need it but I have a 14" thick motolite wheel that hived good grip! When I am 90 may consider adding it!
