Wow,
What an interesting and thought provoking thread for a Saturday morning.

Amongst all the contrasting opinions I am surprised we haven't heard from the Vegan Club. Surely all the cows and sheep we eat produce CO2 and lots of methane. Now off the nearest Burger King, 50 miles away, in the Interceptor ( only 7.2 litre )

Am I alone in reading the article in the Telegraph last week stating that NASA has declared that antartic ice cover has increased appreciably.

Nothing like a climate change debate to raise the temperature! For what it's worth my take on this is that climate change, whether it be man made or part of a natural cycle will have a far greater impact on humanity now than it has done historically. In the past when the climate caused crops to fail humans could just take off and walk to wherever the land was more fertile and more prey lived. When crops fail today, there's nowhere to go as national boundaries have been imposed where historically there were none. And there are a lot more people around today and far better communications - witness the current migration from Africa to Europe. (This is a very simplified version of things). One thing I do find difficult to understand is why people get so angry about people who care about the environment. Even if you think they are wrong, they're wrong for the right sentiments - they want to save you, your children and your children's future. Chill!!

Yes, unfortunately the NASA study found that the increase in Antarctic ice is failing to make up for the accelerated loss of sea ice globally. Moreover the loss of arctic sea ice is much more problematic because the sea is much more absorbent of heat as the ice disappears, much more so that the thickening of existing ice cover offsets.

This is one of those facts that is being seized on by AGW denialists as some sort of evidence that everything is ok, whereas actually it's an indicator that world weather patterns are being disrupted more seriously and more quickly than the models indicated.

No future for my children - don't have any (at least not that I'm aware of boat ), so I think I've probably done more than enough for the planet's future, seeing as mankind is the biggest poluter...
