points are understood by almost any service depot, electronic ignition systems less so. Only if the mechanic is over 45 years of age. The younger guys just want somewhere to plug in the code reader. eddie Yep, that sounds right.  Most of the newer breed seem to be fitters rather than real mechanics.

Question from the under 45 crowd... how do you set static timing without points? I've always used a test light across the points. No points, so where to probe?

Upgrades to make it more reliable and roadable are never issues. Do it and enjoy the car.
