The plastic radiator problems has prompted me to add this new post.
The radiator off my 69 4/4 needs refurbishment, unfortunately the two companies I have used in the past no longer exist. Has anyone had a good experience of having a Morgan (or other classic car) radiator refurbished preferably with a company in the NW?
I did see a radiator repair company in the Midlands however the cost was only just short of a Mulberry aluminium rad.
Thanks in advance
John

Hi John
Sadly the days of getting radiators and many other parts reconditioned seem to be gone, certainly nothing like it used to be. When I was on the shop floor in Birmingham (and I do realise it was a lifetime ago) we had 3 or 4 radiator repair shops we could use, someone overhauling steering racks, Yules 'Blue Ribbond' engines, too many gearbox overhaul shops to count. Not just the motor trade either, when was the last time you saw a TV or radio repair shop?

Many years ago I worked in a radiator manufacturing factory....SUButec, formerly Morris Motors and now Calsonic Kansei. Made BL rads as well as specialist and aftermarket. There were several local repairers within a 20 mile radius. Not sure if they are still there. They could replace any part ..mainly core blocks as they were the least robust parts. We made for older cars...Morris 1000, etc. We even had a Spitfire core in once for refurb...big core indeed! We supplied Marston, Halfords etc from a warehouse we had. I remember my old Maxi workhorse rad core going....used Radweld as a temp until we made new Maxi rads a few weeks later....took mine in as a staff repair and it came out like new

Hi john, Afraid not in your area, but have used them in the past and still seem to be in business. They specialise in vintage car and aircraft stuff,a real old fashioned place. might be useful if all else fails.Perhaps there is some kind of courier service.there is a website. John Lifes Motors in Southport have local contacts for radiator refurbishment. They were going to use them to recondition mine but happened to have a recon one in stock which they fitted. Alternatively Macclesfield Radiator Services are very good but you would have to take the radiator off the car for them. They did a recore on a Mk2 Jag for me a few months ago, excellent job. Good luck

John, I use Walkers Rads, South Otterington, Northallerton. But I would have thought you could find someone nearer to you than that. Good hunting. Cheers John

Thanks All for your reply's. The car is totally dismantled for a re-build so the rad is already off. I will bear Lifes in mind and also Macclesfield Radiator Services too. If the cost is high to refurbish I will probably talk to Mulberry about one of their Ali Rads.
