Hi everyone. Not sure whether I should be joining Talk Morgan, as I don't own a Morgan or probably ever will, unless I win the lottery.

I you all.

Anyway, I am at least interested in Morgan and all other classic sports cars. So what brings me here? Recently I went on a Morgan Factory Tour, which I found so very interesting and fascinating in many ways. From the way that Morgan cars are built to the dedication of all the workforce in producing something with their hands and that they all seem to love and care about what they are building. For many, their fathers and grandfathers have all worked at the Morgan factory before them, going back to the beginning of Morgan production.

That's what you call a family commitment for most of the present workforce, besides the founder members of the Morgan family itself. Since watching several videos taken during the nineties, when there was a seven year waiting list for a new car, it is nice to know that with the introduction of more modern methods of tooling, they are now able to have the chassis parts laser cut, thus speeding up this end of the production, enabling more of the workforce to build the rest of the bodywork, without any loss of quality.

The introduction of the 3 Wheeler again, enabling sales to the USA and the new Aero 8 ( again, with the new BMW engine will allow four wheelers back in the USA) has surely confirmed Morgan's future in this more modern technological age, by still combining hand built methods as well, which Morgan is renowned for.

Well I have rambled on a bit haven't I, but the only Morgan's I posses are in miniature form, being a 1/16th scale Morgan + 8 in Ivory with Dark Red trim, (no longer in production) and a Morgan Aero 8 in Red with Black trim 1/16th scale, (still available on Amazon/Ebay) as well as a 1/32 scale Racing Aero 8 built for slot car racing.

Besides those, I have quite a good collection of 1/16 & 1/24 scale models, mostly of 1930s vintage to 1950s classics, some of which are no longer available except as second hand collectables, some for a hefty price.

So there you are, that sums up my interest in Morgan's, so I will just have to be content with my models I'm afraid and drool over them. I was toying with the idea of building a model of a 3 wheeler Morgan from scratch in 1/16th scale, if I can source a suitable V twin engine from a motorbike kit, as there are no models of this car available in that scale. The frame will be built from Ash, with the body panels built from aluminium soft drinks cans, which is just ideal for this scale.

I think I better leave now, by the back door. Before someone tells me to:- Come back when you own a full size Morgan

Welcome, Geoff! Anyone who is enthusiastic about Morgans is welcome here. Hopefully one day you will have a real one, but miniatures are a good start?

That is very kind and generous of you Roger.My wife want's to visit Canterbury sometime next year for a few days, so I might just take you up on your offer.

Many years ago (1988), I built a Pilgrim Bulldog kit car, which was in the same style as a Morgan, it was made from a steel chassis, with fibre glass body shell, using donor parts from a Morris Marina for the running gear, all refurbished, but I put a reconditioned MGB 1800 engine mated with a Triumph Dolomite gearbox and back axle in it, which improved the acceleration much more like a sports car.

I had it until the end of 1993, when some stupid idiot came out of a side road, right into the side front wing of my beloved car. It was a complete write off and although I got £6000 on his insurance, it would have meant buying another kit to replace it, but I just couldn't face another two years building one again. So I'm afraid my classic sports car experience came to an end and it was back to owning and running mass production cars again. Although not in the same league as a Morgan, it was a very similar driving experience and it performed very well and was such a fun car to drive, with lots of looks as you drove it.

Welcome to the forum Geoff. Can I suggest if you are interested in Morgans that you go to the Thrill on the Hill event at Shelsley Walsh in 2016, you will see all types of Morgan being driven up the hill. It is a good family day out.

Geoff with your talents, you should be able to find a restoration project at a sensible price and join the Morgan brotherhood. The cars are out there. Best of luck.

Welcome Geoff! I also am an avid Morgan minatures collector, probably got a couple of hundred (?), Can't think of an ivory 1/16th plus 8 though, unless kit built? There's a few 1/16 three wheeler kits about by Minicraft, Entex etc. They build up to very nice models. There's also a very nice Morgan models book published in France with some very rare models illustrated.
